Question of the Week ...

"For our jobs we always try to use plants that are hardy to Zone 5  just because we don't want to take any chances with extreme temperatures. Some of the plants we put in last year didn't make it. Why?"

Answer: Other environmental conditions can be problematic such as wind and sun exposure, especially in the case of broadleaf evergreens.  It's extremely important that newly planted material receive enough water through fall and into winter, until the ground is frozen solid.  It's also important that plants not be heavily pruned or fertilized between late July until mid-November to avoid pushing growth too late into the season that doesn't appropriately harden off.

Submit your landscaping question via email to sbarbier@planterschoice.com and you'll be entered in a monthly drawing to receive 10% OFF your next purchase (pick up only, does not apply to deliveries).
