Now That's Color!

Rhododendron 'Cornell Pink'
'Cornell Pink' Azalea

'Cornell Pink' Azalea (Rhododendron mucronulatum), also known as Korean Rhododendron, has clear pink flowers born in clusters on an upright growing plant, 4-8' tall. It is the earliest blooming Rhododendron we carry, blooming late March into April, right when your customers need it!

Very nice planted near evergreens as seen here - this Blue Spruce really shows off the flower color! Avoid sunny southern exposures where plants may flower too early and suffer some frost damage. Good drainage is essential as they don't like wet feet.

Perennial of the Week:  Sempervivum tectorum Hen's & Chicks
Sedum sempervivum
Sempervivum tectorum calcareum
common name
: Hens and Chicks
size: 3" and spreading
interest: Thick, succulent colorful foliage in greens and maroons
culture: Full sun, excellent drainage
time of year: Year round
companion plants: Delosperma, 'Tiny Rubies' Dianthus, Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue'

Hens and Chicks thrive in tight spots. They're great for planting in stone walls and small crevices or in a rock garden up against some stones. Flowers emerge from the centers of mature rosettes that rise up several inches, however, they are definitely grown more for their foliage! Perfectly drained soil surrounding the root system is an absolute must. The plants will not tolerate exposure to pools of water.  An interesting, low-maintenance plant that adds color and texture all year long.
