 The Promise of Spring...
Hamamelis x Arnold's Promise buds
Hamamelis x intermedia ''Arnold's Promise'

As fall soon comes to an end, and the winter months begin, the beauty out in the landscape becomes more ...subtle. Dried seedheads here, waning fruit there, who knew we'd get excited about the fat, tan buds of  'Arnold's Promise' Witchhazel?  The branches are loaded and will be ready to twist open into a bright yellow haze sometime in February. Considered a small tree/large shrub, this hybrid Witchhazel will grow about 15-20' and about as wide. It has medium green leaves in summer with outstanding fall color. Plant in full sun to part shade in moist acidic soil. Other available hybrids are 'Diane' and 'Jelena' which flower coppery-red and red-orange respectively.

Having an early spring garden to look forward to always makes the winter months that much more bearable. We carry two other varieties of Witchhazels that will extend interest in anyone's fall/winter landscape. Common Witchhazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is our native fall bloomer and Vernal Witchhazel (H. vernalis), blooming late winter,  is also native but from further west. Create an early spring garden by adding some Lenten Rose (Helleborus) and early blooming Crocus - that will give your customers a sweet  combination to look forward to after a long, cold winter!

Felco By Numbers:

Felco 2 is the most popular bypass pruner. Unlike the other Felco models, the lower blade (the hook or anvil blade) is strongly attached with rivets. This makes a powerful pruner, but replacing the lower blade (though rarely necessary) requires riveting.

Felco 4 This is basically a stripped-down Felco 2 without the all the extras, meant for agricultural use.

Felco 5  This bypass pruner, with handles made from solid steel and simplified construction, is an ideal choice for the home gardener. No cushion stop, sap groove or wire-cutting notch. If you're like us and you lose a lot of pruners - the '5' is for you: Buy'em in quantity or give them as gifts to your customers!

Felco 6 have a smaller cutting head for easier reaching into tight, densely-branched areas. It also has a slightly smaller grip and may be more suitable for those with smaller hands.

Felco 7  This is the top-of-line for Felco pruners, an ergonomic bypass Felco pruner for the professional. The Felco 7 has a rotating handle that revolves on its axis, allowing the fingers to move naturally, reducing the blisters and hand fatigue that so often accompany prolonged pruning work.

Felco 8 bypass pruners are an ergonomic re-design of the original. The same as the Felco 7, but without the rotating lower handle.

Felco 9 is a left handed version of #8.

Felco 10 is the left handed version of #7.

Don't forget their hand-saws and loppers too!

Coronas pruners and tools are also available. Affordable, too!
