Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green'
Oregon Green Pine
Bold texture - something every garden needs.

What landscape wouldn't benefit from some eye candy? Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green' (Compact Austrian Pine) adds wonderful texture wherever it is, including our sales yard! White candles in spring show up very bright against the stiff green needles. It's a relatively slow growing conifer, the 10 year size is about 12'H, the mature size only about 20'H. Plant them in full sun in average soil. Austrian Pines in general are quite adaptable, tolerating a wide range of soil types and conditions; clay soils, seaside or city, exposed sites and dryness. It's a tough plant that can stand alone as a specimen or in a group. A nice plant to consider as a windbreak, creating great color and texture for the winter garden, showing off companion plants with interesting bark and berries or swaying grasses.

Making exciting combinations with this pine is so simple - just about anything you plant near it will look good! Red-twig Dogwood, seen above, is almost too easy, so try some ornamental grasses, broad-leaf evergreens like Rhododendron and Andromeda or Azaleas which will add some nice spring color.

One more reason to consider 'Oregon Pine'? Middle aged plants develop a nice dark bark.
How about another reason? They're on special! See pricing below.

Staff Tip: Stay Out of the Corner!

landscape plan

Don't paint yourself into a corner when designing your next project. Sometimes being less specific with the plants on your plan makes for less headaches when sourcing material. Rather than labeling your plan with a particular plant simply call it specimen evergreen or flowering deciduous tree and so on. This allows you to work with the current availability at your favorite nursery supplier and prevents heartaches/headaches at time of installation.

Thanks for the tip, Doug!
