Try Looking First, Designing Second
|
Azaleas in Newtown May 9th last year... Spring can't come soon enough!
Have you ever read about a cutting edge plant you have to have, only to find it's not available yet? Or spend time and gas looking for that hard-to-find specimen you heard about, then realize it's not anywhere within 50 miles? The time and energy spent on hunting down that special plant for that key spot can sometimes be saved by checking out the material in the nursery first - before you begin to design. This allows you to easily come up with a plan for your customer's landscapes, saving you the headache from guessing, and the disappointment when you can't find it.
As spring approaches and the yards begin to fill up, plan to visit us. Take your time, walk around and familiarize yourself with our wide variety of nursery stock - both what we grow ourselves and what is brought in from other sources. Continue to watch your Friday's Weekly Picks for news of incoming material. It's a great way to jump-start your season and stock up on new ideas!
In the mean time, while we wait for signs of spring, check out the lectures and trade shows for all the latest information. (See below)
Don't forget we're here for your spring bids. Fax or email us your list and we'll quote it in a timely manner.

A Very Green Event |
The Ecological Landscaping Association has their 16th Annual Conference & Eco-Marketplace next Thursday, February 25th at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA. Held for one full day, it's jam-packed with Interesting Speakers and exhibitors, including us! There are displays with the latest in organic fertilizers, new ideas in storm-water management and the newest in rain barrels just to name a few. (Also, see how snakes, salamanders, chickens and worms all fit into the ecosystem!) The keynote speaker will be Toby Hemenway, author of Gaia's Garden, a Guide to Home-scale Permaculture.
It's a fun event with interesting ideas and lots to learn! Don't forget to stop by our booth and say hi!

The season's right around the corner... Lecture #3
Turf: What Every Landscaper Should Know
|
There is still time and space to sign up for the last talk for the winter season, this time on Turf. Glenn Morrell from Lebanon will be our speaker Tuesday, the 23rd at 1:30pm in Newtown.
No matter how wonderful the mixed border looks, it won't look 'finished' without a healthy looking lawn. For many of you lawn maintenance is your mainstay, for others it's something you'd rather avoid. No matter what your part is in this industry you should know something beyond the basics. Glenn will talk about a range of topics including MESA slow release fertilizer, the difference between grass seed varieties, LockUp vs Confront for broadleaf weed control and much more! Of course, he'll also answer your questions!
