Welcome!
The end of January is near which means that February and then March
(obviously) is coming soon. I get so excited as these months pass as I
know that spring is right around the corner. I am an extreme optimist
and one that loves when winter ends. I apologize to all the avid
snowmobilers. Spring often means travel which means increased business.
The Chamber wants to encourage all of the local business owners to hang
in there during these dreary months. We know it can be tough!

City News
By Linda Marsh, City Clerk
CITY BUDGET - The city has closed
out the 2009 budget and is now in the 2010 budget year. Tax revenues from retail sales and motel
taxes were up slightly in 2009. The
sales tax revenue is up due mostly to "Streamline Sales Tax". "Streamline Sales Tax" means if you order on
line and have it delivered to Pateros - the city of Pateros gets the sales tax. The city is always looking for ways to
tighten their spending and has kept within their 2009 budget for all
funds.
GRANT FUNDS - We have started the
paperwork for the $135,000 Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant (EECBG). The grant is for retrofitting the old fire
hall section of city hall with energy efficient improvements. The improvements to the building will provide
a space for a Visitor Information Center and Historical Museum.
PLANNING COMMISSION - The
Planning Commission is looking for a new member. If you are interested please contact city
hall. The Planning Commission meets once
a month to discuss the planning issues of the city.

School News
From the Superintendent, Lois Davis
Hello Pateros,
We are saddened by the loss of Donna Campbell. Donna has been a staff
member for 16 years here in Pateros. Her smile and support of students
is missed. Our condolences go to her family, friends, and former
students. Her celebration of life will be here at the school on Sunday,
January 17 at 1:00. There is a memorial scholarship fund established to
honor her.
Pateros High School was recognized as one of the nations' top high
schools in 2009 by US News and World Report Magazine. This is one in a
series of awards that acknowledges the excellent work being done by
students and staff here at the school. Congratulations Pateros High
School!
