November General Meeting

If you've never sat in on one of our meetings, you're missing out on great food, informal atmosphere, informative guest speakers and updates on Chamber happenings.

The November General Meeting was held on Tuesday, November 17th.  Linda Marsh spoke about Christmas on the Confluence, which will be held on December 16th at 5:30 p.m.  Visits with Santa will be held in the old fire hall.

Our guest speaker this month was Mike Hassing, CEO of Family Health Centers, who talked about the history of FHC and common misconceptions.  He also discussed the growth and goals of FHC and welcomed input about how to link or support the Pateros community with them.

Thanks to all who attended.  Complete Minutes are available on our website. Next meeting is at noon on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at City Hall.  We hope to see you there!

Grant Funds Received

City Logo
The city of Pateros applied for a $15,000 grant from Okanogan County .09 Infrastructure Funds.  The application was made to obtain funding to extend the Pedestrian Mall Project to the end of the business district area (200 feet) in the same style as the current mall and end the mall with some form of artwork.  A presentation was made to the Economic Alliance committee on November 13th and the committee ranked the Pateros project as their number one priority to fund in full.  The project will now go before the County Commissioners to be approved.

An application was made for a $135,000 grant to make energy efficient improvements to the old fire hall.  The improvements are in preparation for the new historical museum and visitor information center.  On November 10th the city was notified by Washington State Department of Commerce that we were selected for grant funding through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program for the full $135,000.  The work on the project should begin in 2010.

School News
From the Superintendent, Lois Davis

Pateros School

Hello Pateros,

The support from the community at all our events is appreciated. Thank you to those who joined us for our Veteran's Day assembly with Charles Borg.  The Pateros Associated Student Body worked with Laura Christian to host Borg to honor our local Veterans.  The community turnout included many of our award winning veterans from World War II, the Koran War, Vietnam War, and Desert Storm.  The students heard about the ways our local heroes participated in all theaters of World War II.  Borg presented Mrs. Christian with two books for our library.  A local veteran honored those who served with music.  Next year we hope to continue to tell local stories, and to include the elementary in an assembly of their own.  Please stop by the library or city hall to see the books.
