Welcome!
The town of Pateros has more going for it than we often
realize! We are surrounded by a wonderful community and a handful of businesses
that have been very loyal to the community. With that said I want to remind everyone
that the Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet is right around the corner. It is
time to get your ballots in and vote for the citizen and business of the year.
Take some time to think and let us know who and what business you believe had
the most positive and wide spread effect on the community in 2008. You can
print a copy of the ballot, if you have not received one, from the Pateros
Chamber of Commerce website, www.pateros.com.
Please return ballots to the City Hall by April 10th. The banquet
will be held April 27th beginning at 6:30pm at the United Methodist
Church. During a time of financial uncertainty, most of
us realize that state budgets are being cut left and right. Over the past few
months we have been informed that a handful of state parks may be in jeopardy
of closing. Alta Lake State Park
is one that is on a list of possible mothballing. Gov. Gregoire has asked the
Parks and Recreation Committee to figure out a way to reduce cost by 10%. If
they find this is not enough, Alta
Lake State
Park is in danger of closing. To find out more
information about this issue you can visit the Washington Parks
and Recreation Commission website at www.parks.wa.gov.
I encourage you to voice your opinion and write your state officials. These
addresses and phone numbers can be found at www.leg.wa.gov.
Time is closing in on us. Final votes and decisions will be made near the end
of April or beginning of May. Without Alta Lake State Park our community would
economically struggle in more ways than one. We rely heavily on the State Park
to bring visitors that stimulate our local economy. Every voice counts, so
please contact our state officials immediately.

Chamber News & Upcoming Events March General Meeting
If you've never sat in on one of our meetings, you're missing out on great food, informal atmosphere, informative guest speakers and updates on Chamber happenings.
The March General Meeting was held Wednesday, March 18th. We discussed the upcoming Annual Banquet, which will be held on April 27. Don't forget! Also, Julie Porter attended and filled us in on the 2009 Hydro Races, which will be on August 29th and 30th. That will be a jam-packed weekend you do not want to miss!
Also discussed was the serious concern that Alta Lake might close due to budget cuts and what Pateros can do to protect this valued resource. Chamber President, Jennifer Stennes, organized a community "brainstorming" meeting on March 25th. Thanks to all who attended.
Meeting Minutes will be available for viewing on our website.

School News From the Superintendent, Lois Davis
Hello Pateros,
Thank you Pateros voters.
You responded with a 66.5% approval of the health and safety bond with
55% of the registered voters returning their ballots. Your support makes a difference to the
students of Pateros. The board, staff,
and students appreciate your faithful support of the Maintenance and Operation
Levy that runs every two years also. This additional bond will go far in
meeting the immediate needs of the school.
We are excited to move ahead on the health and safety
projects. Our bond counsel plans to sell
the bond on April 27, 2009. We had a few
people ask if they could purchase some bonds.
They are available to the public with the minimum purchase of
$5000. You can reach Seattle Northwest
Securities Corporation at 206.628.2882 and their website is www.seattlenorthwestsecurities.com. Read more...

friends.
Our store is a contract liquor store as well as an Ace Hardware. For your
convenience, we have fishing and hunting licenses. We also offer the camper a
place to find those most needed items for the "camping in style" kind of
