Oct. 7, 10:30 am: The Transcendent Experience or Whose God is it? (Reprise) Rev. Chip Wright with Worship Associate Sue Fleckles
We Unitarians and Universalists have strong and rich ties to the historical time we call the Transcendental Period. We'll look at the effect the transcendent as a larger experience has had upon our religious path.

October, 2012
The song, 'I'm on My Way to the Freedom Land,' has been bouncing around in my head for at least a few weeks as this new church year geared up. Not sure just why--I guess because it's about optimism and trust. It's hard not to catch that energy because there have been all kinds of folk bustling about the church, and often in and out past my office to have a conversation or some stepping in just to say hi. And I can hear Irene, our Ministerial Intern this year, sitting in the printer room with her laptop typing away as she lays out a learning schedule for the year. Dara, our new MRE, is also shuffling furniture about in her office, making it feel like home as she also sets up a RE schedule for the year. I see all this and it feels right and busy. It heralds another bright and active church year here at UUCM. I also know we will be facing some challenging times in these next couple months. We will have our spirits, for some, even our souls dangling out there, hope against hope the elections will bring a positive view of the future. Difficult times are a reality of life and awaiting the outcome of such an election as this, at least for me, can be difficult. Still I know in my heart 'I'm on My Way to the Freedom Land', and as long as I vote and stay with the spirit of this time I trust tomorrow to bring joy. And it truly can if we all vote. Not just you, but all the folks close and dear to you as well, your friends, your coworkers, who may have become disillusioned or apathetic. Take a little time to speak to friends and coworkers about voting, how important it is. Then regardless of the outcome, you will know you did what you could to be on your way to the freedom land! UUCM Heritage Project | |
 | Members from the 1950s. (taken in 2003) |
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin is thrilled to be launching the UUCM Heritage Project this Fall. The mission of the project is to collect oral histories, written memories, photos and documents related to the history of our congregation. We will start the project by collecting these interviews and materials in private interviews. We can set up a time to meet with the interviewee directly after church or at another time that is convenient for all parties.
Eventually, we hope to involve the youth of the congregation and others who are interested, and expand the project to include a film or series of short films celebrating who we are as a congregation. This year, 2012/2013, we will be focusing on the first twenty-five years of our history. There are many ways to be involved. 1) Volunteer to be interviewed, if you were involved the early decades of the church. 2) Volunteer to be an interviewer. You will be trained and paired up with an interviewee. 3) Write down your memories of the church and submit to the collection. If you'd like, we could turn your submission into a blog entry and post here. 4) Donate photos and documents from the early years of the church. 5) Type transcripts of the interviews for our archives.
6) If you have given a Remarkable People lecture and still have notes or a written talk, submit these to the archive. There will be more ways to be involved with the project as it evolves. Stay tuned! If you are interested in helping in any of these ways, please contact Nikki Gothelf at ngothelf@pacbell.net

Pastoral Care - STAR
| | UUCM has many people who need transportation to and from church or church events. By participating in the STAR program as a rider or driver you can help solve this problem.
Safe Transport And Reimbursement "STAR" Program Marin Whistlestop's new STAR Volunteer driver program reimburses drivers 35 cents per mile. Here's how it works: "Driver drives rider to and/or from church, appointment, other activity. Rider fills out and signs a form. Driver completes and submits the form to STAR. They send the money to rider (with a new form for the next month.) Rider gives the money to driver. Joan Nelson has been doing this for several months and says it works like clockwork. STAR does not match drivers and riders. They find each other just as they would without such a program. Both rider and driver have to complete an initial application.
For more info call 454-0969. or go to Volunteer Driver Program. |
