Sunday Worship Service chalice

Sept. 16, 10:30 am: "A New Year--In More Ways than One"

Rev. Chip Wright & Rev. Dara Olandt, MRE

with Worship Associate Dianne Estrada

During the High Holy days which start the evening of Sept. 16th and run through Sept. 26, the Jewish calendar moves into the new year of 5773. We here at UUCM also move into this church year with a new leader of our Religious Education program, Rev. Dara Olandt. Come and meet our MRE (Minister of Religious Education) and hear some of her history and passions as we start this new relationship.

Building Repair Workshop - Sept. 22
hammer
I am scheduling a Building Repair Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 22 between 9 AM and 3 PM.  Maybe lunch.  I invite all to let me know if you are coming.  Also let me know what projects you have in mind getting done and any materials and tools you need to have available but won't bring yourself.  This will help me to muster materials and tools.

Suggested work:
1.  Repair the slope between the Foyer and the long hallway which is wearing down and showing chicken wire reinforcing.
2.  Possible calking or other repairs to the junction between the lower deck surface and the building walls.  Also how to go about waterproofing this junction.
Many other projects - I will send out an expanded list as soon as I get more ideas.

Members Welcoming Visitors
The Task force on Membership is planning to strengthen and energize how we engage with coffee cups
visitors and new attendees in a road to membership process. We are inviting volunteers to help welcome visitors after the service.  A training workshop for greeters and welcome volunteers will be on Sunday October 21, 12 to 2:30, Fellowship Hall.  This is a limited commitment (one Sunday a month?) and is a great way to help!  For further information or to volunteer, please contact Nani Ranken.  nani@ranken.com or 898-8558.
 Pastoral Care
rosesAs we enter our new church year, we would like to make sure you know the membership of the Pastoral Care Committee.  You can help us do a better job by contacting any of us regarding a member in need. This year our members are:  Rev. Chip, Anne Baele, Don Beck, Jim Gronvold, Gerry Holcomb, Walt & Carol Littrell, Dara Olandt, Minister of RE, & Babs Turrentine.

If you have suggestions for us to consider, please call or email Carol Littrell:  883-9676, or cjwlittrell@aol.com.
Book Group
book pile Our UUCM Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the Clara Barton Room.  We welcome new members.  Contact: Nani Ranken: 898-8558.

The book for September 19 is The Path to Power by Robert Caro, winner of the 1982 National Book Critics Circle Award.
"This is the story of the rise to national power of a desperately poor young man from the Texas Hill Country. The Path to Power reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and ambition that set LBJ apart. It follows him from the Hill Country to New Deal Washington, from his boyhood through the years of the Depression to his debut as Congressman, his heartbreaking defeat in his first race for the Senate, and his attainment, nonetheless, at age 31, of the national power for which he hungered."
