Sunday Worship Service
| August 26, 10:30 AM: "Participation Service" Dick Park with Worship Associate Sue Fleckles
The Participation Service has its roots in the Quaker Meeting. There is quiet music and introductory words at the beginning, and quiet music at the end, but in between, the silence is broken only by individuals sharing thoughts and feelings that are significant to them.
September 2, 10:30 am: Paradise Now Lindasusan Ulrich with Worship Associate Rodney Gothelf When violence and empire dominate the frameworks we use to understand the world, paradise can seem a long way off or gone forever. But when we return to the deep beauty of this embodied world, we can discover new frameworks that give our lives joy and meaning, even in the midst of loss. Join us for this service led by Lindasusan Ulrich, a Candidate for UU ministry and a seminarian at Starr King School for the Ministry. September 9, Bring water or stones from your summer.

Chip's Clips
| | Reverend Chip Wright September, 2012
The summer is ending and our 2012-13 church year begins. I am looking forward to all of the new energy and excitement ahead as we come together this year. We welcome one another back into a full church program at our anointment service on Sept. 9th, and we also will be welcoming a new staff member, Rev. Dara Olandt. She started her new position in our RE program on the 15th of Aug. so some of you may have already had the chance to meet her. A recent graduate of Starr King School, Dara will be operating under the title of MRE or 'Minister of Religious Education' rather than DRE or Director. I know you will enjoy her and I look forward to what she will bring to our religious education program here at UUCM.
We also will be operating our Music program through the rest of this year differently. As you know our music director, Phil Hildreth, moved to Florida last summer so until we find a new choir director various members of the choir, Milton, and a few possible new directors here and there, will be filling in. We hope to have located someone to fill this critical role by the end of Jan 2013 so our choir folks can go back to just enjoying singing which they do so well!
And, we will add another new face to the mix. Stepping into the role as a teaching congregation, we will be hosting an intern this year, Irene Boczek, a Starr King student. She will be with us for the whole church year through June. She also will be bringing her energy and unique talents to our church life and into our pulpit. Please welcome her as well when you get the chance to meet.
So see ya'll on Sept. 9th as we start what promises to be another year of exciting abundance!
Rev. Chip

Greetings - Minister of Religious Education
| | Dara's Dispatch I am delighted to join the team at UUCM as your Minister of Religious Education. My name is Dara Olandt. Wondering how to pronounce my name? "Dara" rhymes with "Sarah"! I am a minister in fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist Association and received my master's of divinity degree from Starr King School for the Ministry in 2010. I have been a UU religious educator since 2006 and have worked in UU congregations including the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship of Lafayette, Colorado and First Unitarian Church of Oakland, just across the Bay. I am a life-long Unitarian Universalist with a background in creative arts education, theater and embodied-movement facilitation and interfaith work. To UUCM I bring a love of creativity and a passion for supporting spiritual growth and religious education for seekers of all ages! The season of fall brings opportunities for new connections! I look forward to getting to know you. I welcome you to share with me your questions, hopes and dreams about Religious Education at UUCM. In early September, please join me for a "Meet and Greet" and formal "RE Kick-Off!" for this year's religious education program. Look for the date and more details coming soon! Until then, if you have questions about Religious Education or are interested in being a "teacher" or assistant in our program, please be in touch! Email me at mre@uumarin.org or call (415) 374-0656. I look forward to co-creating a thriving religious education program at UUCM together! Bright Blessings, Rev. Dara Minister of Religious Education mre@uumarin.org (415) 479-4131 |

Book Group
| | Our UUCM Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the Clara Barton Room. We welcome new members. Contact: Nani Ranken: 898-8558. The book for September 19 is The Path to Power by Robert Caro, winner of the 1982 National Book Critics Circle Award. "This is the story of the rise to national power of a desperately poor young man from the Texas Hill Country. The Path to Power reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and ambition that set LBJ apart. It follows him from the Hill Country to New Deal Washington, from his boyhood through the years of the Depression to his debut as Congressman, his heartbreaking defeat in his first race for the Senate, and his attainment, nonetheless, at age 31, of the national power for which he hungered." UU Animal Ministry | UUAM celebrates the goal of a more compassionate world! Please join us.
With loving kindness, we advocate greater moral consideration of animals.
With humility, we are rethinking our treatment of other species.
With gratitude, we cherish our multispecies planet.
With joy, we practice compassion.
Still, at times, this prophetic task challenges the spirit-
And when we walk together, the way becomes easier and more joyful.
How can I be in touch with UUAM?
More information is at our website. What is the Reverence for Life Program?
UUAM created this program in 2010 to provide steps for greater Unitarian Universalist engagement about how we relate to other animals. Several UU congregations piloted the program beginning in 2011, and now the RFL program is available for everyone. Learn more.
Announcing two free webinars starting in September 2012 "Transforming Belief into Practice" is a 1-session webinar designed for UUs interested in beginning, supporting, or growing animal ministries in their congregations. "Compassionately Creating the Beloving Transpecies Community" is an 8-session course covering communication skills, spiritual practices, ethics, animal behavior and communication, and more!
