Contemplative Service

Our Lay led Contemplative Service is from 9:00-10:00 am on Sundays in the Fireside Room.

Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.
Pledge Drive Update

The Pledge Drive is officially over, but many of us still haven't pledged! Remember, UUCM leadership needs to know our pledge in order to plan a great 2012-13 church year. We simply need to know how much each member is pledging - payment isn't required until after July 1. Fill out your pledge form and return it to the office today!

As an incentive, our BOARD PRESIDENT will SHAVE HIS LOCKS if we have received 100% of pledges by April 15! Turn in your pledge form ASAP!!

Message from the Administrator
The Administrator will be out of the office April 9-13.

Also: Please observe designated parking signage and markings on Sunday mornings. A designated parking spot is between two white lines and one that is not otherwise marked for staff. Rev. Chip usually offers his parking spot as an additional disabled parking spot, so if his car is not parked there, it may be used for disabled parking.
UUCM Congregational Retreat
The Retreat deadline has passed but we can allow a few more registrations.
If you have registered - do you have a special discussion topic that interests you?  Do you have a special knowledge, talent or craft that can be shared with others?  Consider leading a session at the retreat!  Sessions are approximately 1.0 to 1.5 hours each.  Never done it before?  Never fear -- the Retreat Committee will help you every step of the way!

To offer a workshop or take part in the talent show, print and fill in these forms:
DON'T MISS these wonderful workshops coming up -- only at the Retreat --
        "Mindful Parenting" with Ali Jenkins!
"Your Personal Theology -- Don't Ask Don't Tell!" with Nani Ranken
"Tie Dye Extravaganza" with Mikey Songster
        "Nature Walk" with Mary Bicknell

and... don't miss Lisa Cohen's Poetry Reading, and Jazz Piano by ...you have to come to find out!

So please don't wait. Email Thomas Ervin at thomas.ervin@comcast.net or Dianne Estrada at dianne.estrada@ffic.com and let them know that you are coming and turn in your registration form on Sunday, April 8.

Passover Seder April 6
Join us for A FAMILY PASSOVER SEDER POTLUCK on April 6th starting at 5:30pm at UUCM, Fellowship Hall. This year we'll be using the "Oranges and Olives: A Modern, Interfaith Haggadah" to read the story of the Jewish people's liberation from Egyptian slavery many years ago. This story is a liberation story for ALL people who are enslaved in body, mind or spirit. Please see the flyer for details and children are welcome!
Landscape Party Rescheduled
We will work together on Saturday, April 7. Please join us for a number of small and large projects beginning at 9 AM. Lunch is provided.
Finance Committee Meeting
Next finance committee/budget preparation meeting date is 11:30 am to 1 pm on April 17.

Anyone wishing to address the Finance Committee with concerns about budget issues should contact Margaret Johnston at margaret.johnston@comcast.net.
Ushers Needed
We need 2-3 additional ushers for our pool. New members are encouraged to serve. Contact Nani Ranken 898-8558 nani@ranken.com

I am only one.
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything
But still I can do something
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

Edward Everett Hale

Why I usher: I usher because I am able to arrive 30 minutes prior to the service of my choice to prepare, because I can stand and walk without undue fatigue, because I can smile and chat, open and close doors, because i can count people in their seats, and because I can count and record bills and coins for 10 minutes after the service.
I usher because there is a need that I am capable of fulfilling as Edward Everett Hale so eloquently reminds me.

UUCM Book Group
Our UUCM Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9 PM, in the Clara Barton Room. New members are welcome to come and participate in our lively discussions!  Contact: Nani Ranken.

Our book for April 18 is Moon Tiger  by Penelope Lively.  This novel was the 1987 winner of the Booker Prize. The protagonist and narrator, a best-selling author of popular history, is now an old woman lying alone in a hospital bed and deciding to write "a history of the world."  This turns into the memories of her own life that glow in her consciousness and mix with the historical events that shaped her life and career.
UUCM Emergency Women's Shelter Dinner
Thanks for this week's shelter meals go to:
Carolyn B., Grace, Paul, Mason & Owen D., Katherine J., Roddi P., Carol L., Diana & Peter V.
Also two delightful ladies from Thailand who prepared a lovely Thai dish.
