Minister, UUCM

March 2012

February had all kinds of wonderful things happening. Many of you were at the Deep Green classes and saw the wonderful film of the same name and got involved in the lively discussions that followed the two part Sunday series "Our Weeping Earth". A group of eight of us went to the workshop held at the Berkeley Church on the changing face of the religious community in these new times. We officially started the search for our new Director of Religious Education, and the search committee will keep their eyes peeled for the best candidates who come our way and set an interview schedule with the hope of having someone on board by the end of April.

But the real big story of February was our wonderful crab feed/auction night out! This was the most successful fundraiser we have had since I have been the minister here. If you see any of these folks be sure to say thanks for all their efforts and help!

The Committee: Susan Pryor, Co-chair, Sally Schroeder, Co-chair, Norman Davidson, Marge Hollinger, Lori Smith, Phil Smith, and Janette Morrow, staff liaison, Mary Gilstrap who assisted with publicity and Lisa Cohen.

The Cooks and Kitchen Helpers:  Art and Carole Rosvold, Bill Pryor and Rev. Chip who cooked, cleaned, and bowled the crab and Sher Sheldon and Stan Lander, who made the chowder and Jan Quinley, who shopped. And all the Kitchen help, some of whom stayed late to do dishes, Caroline Planakis, Steve Webster, Joan Nelson, Doug and Carol Kerr, Carolyn Bopp and Bill Pryor.

The Drink and Raffle Tickets Folks: Henry Kingdon, Christine Kraemer, Bev Munyon and Coy Smith who also was a big part of our wine and bar supplies!! And our Raffle folks, Dianne Estrada and Monique Webster

The Bar Folks, Steve Schroeder, Katie and Dan Mansergh, Karen and Pierre Auroy, Carolyn Bopp.

And all of our busy Auction Folks, Joyce Rhodes, Therese Tatol, Karen Auroy, Heather Smith, Carolyn Bopp  Marje Park, Coy Smith and of course our auctioneer extraordinaire Dick Park.

If I have missed anyone here, I apologize. I thank you too!!

What a wonderful month February was, just right to lead into the spring and another exciting and abundant March!!

Rev. Chip

Our fish pond is in good health and on advice from Fred, at Pet Arcade, I would like to forgo the scouring this year and see how it goes. Apparently, there are beneficial bacteria in the pond and it is ok to have green on the bottom.

Transylvania Pilgrimage Opportunity
We have a small travel group forming from churches in Arizona & possibly Colorado that is planning a Transylvania Pilgrimage in May of this year. They have decided to open the trip to the wider partner church community. The tour will begin May 15 in Kolozsar/Cluj and end May 24 in Bucharest. The tour will include visits to significant Unitarian historical and religious sites and sites of general interest. In between you will have an opportunity to visit your partner church over a long weekend to reconnect with your partners and make new friends. If you do not have a partner church we will arrange for you to stay in one of the many lovely Unitarian villages that provide guest accommodations. The cost of the tour starts at $1,150.

If you are interested please email John Dale at jdaleuupcc@yahoo.com for a detailed itinerary and instructions on how to register. May is a beautiful time in Transylvania. We hope to see you there!
