Director of Religious Education

March, 2012

Happy Spring! March is usually a month without school holidays and breaks, so we have a smooth stretch in RE for delving into our curricula. Consistent attendance in RE is beneficial for your child as they develop their UU identities and bond with their friends. There are always competing activities, but we hope you make RE a priority!

We also officially welcome new members of the congregation on March 18th during a "New Member Ceremony" at the beginning of the worship service. Feel free to contact me at  dre@uumarin.org if you have questions about becoming a member. If you are considering joining, now is a great time to do so! Please contact Janette at  office@uumarin.org to set up an appointment to meet with Rev. Chip.

Regarding Adult Education, please watch for flyers and information about "Build Your Own Theology"; a course to help you clarify what is true for you regarding your personal faith and beliefs. Please mark your calendars for the following dates:April 2, 16, 23, 30 and May 7: 6:45-8 pm at UUCM in the Fireside room.

There are two small group circles that meet regularly and we're always open to start another group. Small group is a way to get to know other members while deepening our own spiritual search in a more intimate setting. Please contact me if you're interested in starting another group!

With love and light,

Linda Haumann, DRE

March is Pledge Month!

March: the month that we UUCM members and friends pledge our financial commitment for the upcoming church year. An annual pledge is the best way for all members and friends to support UUCM. Pledge forms were mailed this week, so check your mailbox and return the form to the office by March 31. Questions? Visit the pledge table at coffee hour on Sunday or our Pledge Drive web page!

Want to help UUCM and get to know a few of your fellow congregants better? Become a pledge canvasser!

We need canvassers for our March pledge drive, and hope that new and long-standing members alike will help out again this year. E-mail Susan Ingersoll at pledge@uumarin.org to sign-up and get more information.

Time to Submit Budget Items

Budget Time

It's time to submit requests for 2012-2013 (starting July 1, 2012) budget items to the Finance Committee. We will be constructing the proposed UUCM Budget during our next two meetings, 11:30 to 1 p.m. on March 20 and April 17. John Quinley will be contacting committee chairs for their requests. Anyone who wishes to address the Finance Committee directly or to express issues or concerns via email may contact Margaret Johnston, Finance Committee chair, at  margaret.johnston@comcast.net. The Finance Committee will present a proposed budget to the Board of Trustees at their April 25 meeting, and the budget will be presented to the congregation for approval at a May 20 meeting. For reference, the 2011-2012 budget is posted on the website in the "members only" section.

Pastoral Care Class CHANGE
We are redesigning the class scheduled for March 4th for a future date.  Those who wish to pursue the changes & expansion of transportation services in Marin & the Bay Area will want to attend the program on March 21 sponsored by Marin Transit from 9-12 in San Rafael.  We will post more info as we receive it.

Therefore, Pastoral Care will not be

Transylvania Pilgrimage Opportunity
We have a small travel group forming from churches in Arizona & possibly Colorado that is planning a Transylvania Pilgrimage in May of this year. They have decided to open the trip to the wider partner church community. The tour will begin May 15 in Kolozsar/Cluj and end May 24 in Bucharest. The tour will include visits to significant Unitarian historical and religious sites and sites of general interest. In between you will have an opportunity to visit your partner church over a long weekend to reconnect with your partners and make new friends. If you do not have a partner church we will arrange for you to stay in one of the many lovely Unitarian villages that provide guest accommodations. The cost of the tour starts at $1,150.

If you are interested please email John Dale at jdaleuupcc@yahoo.com for a detailed itinerary and instructions on how to register. May is a beautiful time in Transylvania. We hope to see you there!
