Sunday Worship Service
| |
Jan. 1, 10:30 am: The 11th Hour?
Joan Nelson
Itʼs easy to approach this yearʼs promise of a new start with cynicism. Nevertheless, we must transcend uncertainty and act as though we could make a difference. Because we are the only ones who can. How will you secure your good intentions with high intention?

Contemplative Service | |
The 9 am Contemplative Service will not be held on New Year's Day. Our regular services will resume on January 8th.
Our Lay led Contemplative Service is from 9:00-10:00 am on Sundays in the Fireside Room.
Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts. |

New Year 2012
Well, another year has clicked by. Hard to believe it is now 2012 and that I came to serve as your minister in 2009. It seems like such a short time. As they say, "Time flies when you are having fun!" So much has happened here since I came, so much good energy has filled these halls. I just look ahead and smile at the continuing potential, the possibility that is housed here.
This sense of potential is a value which is best served by how we approach our future. What could have been a very difficult period of having to say goodbye to a long time and beloved member of our staff has been made easier by her carefully planned departure. Linda Haumann in her announcement to leave the RE position here and to spend more time with her family on the East coast and pursue other dreams was graciously offered early on in the church year. We therefore have time to develop a search process which will get us the best possible person to step into such big shoes which she has left. Thank you Linda for all the wonderful years of your service to our children and helping us adults grow in our own learning. And thank you for being so courteous and conscious in your process to pave the way for new leadership.
As the 2012 year opens and we all move ahead, let's remember we are a community, and that we have a real message of the truly liberal religious to offer here in Marin. This is a wonderful institution and a vital nurturing ground for a truly important voice in the ever more complex and impersonal world in which we live.
So let us evolve together in joy, care and clarity as we open yet another year together!

Music Notes | | Happy, Happy New Year to all of you! I am so glad to be starting off the new Mayan calendar and this is the start of a future of pure possibilities (for all who may not know the Mayan calendar ended in 2011). I would like to shout out to all the bountiful children in our congregation to come and sing in our Children's Choir. It is relatively painless and it HAS to be fun you know... Samantha Thurmond has expressed interest in heading up a choir for the older YRUUS with my help. If you like to sing (maybe once or twice a year at church), pick your own music and commune with each other, this may be for you. You can contact Samantha directly. This is the time of year I like to thank Milton Wong for all he does to help me. He is a constant inspiration and a blessing beyond blessings. As some of you may know, I conduct a Chorus Emeritus at the College of Marin. I will start another in January called The Point Reyes Community Chorus. This is a new opportunity for me and I am very excited. Indeed the world is filled with pure possibilities!
In Peace, Phil Hildreth C.M.L.

Please continue to turn in your donation forms for the auction. Mail them in or return them to the bin in the Robinson Room (Community Room).
Here are some exciting examples of what has been turned in so far: dinner and kayak paddle with Jennifer Gennari and John Schlag at their Sausalito floating home for six guests, evening catamaran sail on San Francisco Bay for 10 people with Sher and Stan, one night stay at Best Western PLUS/Novato Oaks Inn, gourmet catered dinner for two with wine from Cater Marin, 5 nights of animal boarding (dog or cat) at San Rafael Animal Hospital.
And start telling your friends and neighbors about the auction. By next Sunday Jan. 8 there will be postcards to hand out as reminders. |
UUCM Emergency Women's Shelter Dinner
| |
The homeless ladies at the shelter on Christmas night were delighted with their feast! Also with the thoughtful holiday gifts made by Lindsay, Aidan and Gavin Gilkerson. And gifts provided by Diana and Peter V.
The menu included: Roast turkey. Baked ham. Mashed potatoes. Vegetable casserole. Green bean casserole. Salad. Sparkling cider. Fruit and Dessert.
The Gilkerson and Lechner families joined Diane E., Kristen and Sierra J., Judith P., and Joan at the table. Valerie T., also provided a dish. Another family (formerly unknown to us; friends of Grace D.,) came and stayed just for a little while because they had dined earlier at home. They brought the ham and mashed potatoes!
REMEMBER: YOU CAN INVITE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SHELTER MEALS!
The security guard (who had vivid memories of Wayne from high school) joined in the preliminary blessing circle to round out a truly warm evening in the spirit of the Bethlehem shelter being celebrated this day.
For New Year's Day, we have Meat main dish: Diane E., Vegetarian dish: Carolyn B., Salad: Kristen J.
STILL NEED: FRUIT and MILK, JUICE, or other BEVERAGE.
