Sunday Worship Service

June 19, 11 am: "Shout for Joy"
Sharon Wylie with Worship Associate Karen Auroy

The start of summer is a time to celebrate life's abundance and bounty. Even in times of struggle and sorrow, there is laughter and beauty to cherish. Come, let us gather together at the edge of summer to wonder at life's myriad gifts.

Sharon Wylie will return this summer to do many summer services. She is a recent graduate of Starr King School for the Ministry and a candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry. She comes to ministry as a second career, having worked over ten years at her family's construction company in San Diego. She has just completed a year as the intern minister at the Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church in Hayward, CA. Sharon and her partner, Peter, have been together for 17 years and currently reside in El Cerrito.

Contemplative Service

Our Lay led Contemplative Service is from

9:00-9:50 am on Sundays (not available in summer).

The last Contemplative Service for this year is June 19. It will resume September 11 in the newly refurbished Fireside Room at 9 am.

Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.

Summer Changes

It's summer and we do things a little differently up on the hill.  Here is a quick reference.

1. Service time change: Services start at 10:30 (beginning July 3 and continuing forever). Contemplative service on vacation.

2. Music
There is no choir in the summer but still wonderful piano music.

3. Refreshments: Nothing formal but please sign up in the foyer to serve cookies and lemonade.

4. Religious Education: No formal program, but sign up board is in the foyer for members to sign up to provide children's activities.

5. Staff:

Rev. Chip on vacation but contact office for emergencies 479-4131.

Linda Haumann on hiatus (she works a 10 month year)

6. Weekly - (every other week)
Newsletter will be published Thursdays  July 7, July 21, August 4, August 18 , September 1 and then back to normal schedule. Deadline Monday 8 pm previous to publication date.

7. Gather water or stones from your summer adventures or home for our
 Ingathering service September 11.

We reached our goal!

The final numbers aren't quite in yet, but at this time we know that we have EXCEEDED our $4,000 goal by almost $500!

As you know, we were challenged by an anonymous donor to raise $4,000 to be matched dollar for dollar. Our UUCM community has worked hard these past few weeks to turn that $4,000 into $8,000 (actually $8,500).  Way to go!

End of Year Potluck Thank You!

We did ourselves proud with the ample and delicious food on Sunday! Special thanks for all who worked in the kitchen, setting up, serving and cleaning up. Many hands made light work! Have a lovely summer!

Basket Share Coordinator Needed!

Can you make a little extra time to be Basket Share Coordinator next church year? Susan Ingersoll is going on the Board and therefore is unable to continue. It is a very fun job that contributes to UUCM's Social Concerns work, raises a little extra money for our congregation, and helps build community with other nonprofits. Susan's got all the files and information you'll need for a smooth transition and a great year!

Please contact Susan Ingersoll or Joan Nelson if interested in learning more. Thanks to all for considering taking on this very important task!

Mill Street Shelter:  Sign-Up Time Again

On the first Sunday of every month, UUCM provides dinner for the residents of Mill Street Shelter.  This effort has been shared by many people over the past five years. It's sign -up time again.  If you would like to provide a main dish to serve 25, or a large salad, please let June Fesler know what month you can do so. She will make a schedule and contact you.
Contributors bring food to the kitchen on Sunday morning, and it is delivered later that day. We will need volunteer contributors starting in July.  Contact June Fesler- Junemfesler@gmail.com

Service begins 10:30 a.m. starting July 3

Get ready for a new and consistent year round service time! Beginning Sunday, July 3, UUCM's main service will begin at 10:30 a.m. This change will be better for families and hungry children, make our start time similar to other Marin churches, and accommodate other Sunday commitments - both at UUCM and in the community. Please spread the word! The contemplative service will take a break in the summer and resume in the fall in the Fireside Room.
