Sunday Worship Service |

May 29, 11 am: "Liberal Religion around the Globe"
Rev. Chip Wright with Worship Associate Bev Munyon
There are so many ways liberal religion is found around the world. What it means to be liberal in one's religion in Transylvania, the Philippines, or Sri Lanka can be quite different than we generally understand this idea here in the United States.

President's Column: A Turn at the Helm
| |

Summer is around the corner, and it's the time of year when many of us take vacations, rest and enjoy longer daylight hours. We mark the end of our church year on June 30, and at the Annual Congregational Meeting, we voted in new board members, amended our charter, and passed a good budget.
The Board welcomes Susan Ingersoll, Steve Webster, Julie Van Winkle and we say good-bye to Sally Schroeder, Scott Merrick, and Margaret Johnston. These three have been selfless in their service and dedication to UUCM. Thank you.
Serving as chair of a committee is a big responsibility, and I'd like to extend heartfelt thanks to: Lisa Cohen (communications), Rodney Gothelf (worship associates), Carol Kerr (ministry), Carol Littrell (pastoral care), Katie Mansergh (RE), Nani Ranken (adult RE), Terry Merrick and Marilyn Nelson (partner church), Phil Smith (personnel), Henry Kingdon (finance), Joan Nelson (social concerns), and Joanne Derby and Jan and John Quinley (facility & landscape). I'd also like to thank two people for taking on large tasks: Dan Van Winkle for the retreat and Susan Ingersoll for the pledge drive.
Two years ago, I accepted the job of president of the board, a humbling position. Most of all, I've learned that our beautiful home on this hill is cared for by many many dedicated people. To all of you-you know who you are-my deepest thanks.

Partner Church Committee:
Car Fund and Possible Transylvania Trips
| |
Last Sunday, May 22, we asked our UUCM members to give to a car fund for the benefit of our Partner Church's minister, Rev. Levente Lazar. We challenged UUCM to at least equal, then double, maybe triple our Partner Church Committee seed money of $500. We made our first goal and almost our second! And we still have this coming Sunday when Scott, Terry or Lou Anne will be in the foyer before and after church for those who wish to contribute. Thank you all for your generosity. (On checks made out to UUCM, put "Partner Car Donation" on the information line.)
Also, Rev. Chip will be talking about Sovata in his sermon this Sunday and suggested having a gathering afterward of anyone interested in traveling there sometime. The UU Partner Church Council has a travel service and can customize a trip. Rev. Chip is planning to be in Sovata for the Dedication of their church. Besides being one of our early Unitarian religious sources, Transylvania has interesting World Sites, unusual churches, and charming folk craft traditions.

Touch of Beauty

Flowers, flowers, who's got flowers?
We have some wonderfully faithful flower people but we need some more as I don't like to ask the same ones too often. If you would like to be on my list of people to call, phone or e-mail Terry Merrick. Don't forget that the Sunday bouquet can be in memory of a loved one too.

Beginning Sunday, July 3, UUCM's main service will begin at 10:30 a.m. This change will be better for families and hungry children, make our start time similar to other Marin churches, and accommodate other Sunday commitments - both at UUCM and in the community. Please spread the word! The contemplative service will take a break in the summer and resume in the fall in the Fireside Room.

Annual Summer Family Camping Trip
Sly Park: July 14-17, 2011
| For the past 11 years or so an often varied group of your fellow UUCM'ers and related friends have made an annual trek into the Sierras for a fun weekend of car/RV/tent camping. Well, believe it or not another year has passed and once again that time is upon us. This year the dates are Thursday, July 14th through Sunday, July 17th. The place is Sly Park on Jenkinson Lake just outside Pollock Pines on Highway 50, and our sites are once again in the Hazel Creek camp and can accommodate tents or RVs. (For more information about Sly Park see: http://www.eid.org/recreation/recreation.htm)
This has always been a wonderfully rewarding weekend and a great opportunity to get to know folks on a different level than Sunday mornings, but space is limited. So please let me know as soon as possible if you want to be part of this trip. The cost is reasonable, generally about $25 per vehicle per night (pets are $5/night extra).
Please send me an email (mikey@biosearchtech.com) to let me know you want to be a part of this trip, or if you have any questions.
