Sunday Worship Service

May 15, 11 am: "The 8th Deadly Sin"
Bill Schulz, President of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) with Worship Associate Rodney Gothelf

How many of the seven deadly sins can you name? How many have you not committed? Bill Schulz, President of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), will offer an eighth one he contends is the worst of them all and one of which we all have been guilty at one time or another. But hosannah! He'll also describe how UUSC is working to vanquish this preeminent sin and, in the process, save your souls.

Rev. Dr. William F. Schulz has traveled the globe in pursuit of a world free from human rights violations. Currently Dr. Schulz is President and CEO of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. He also provides consulting services to the funder Humanity United and serves as Adjunct Professor of Public Administration at New York University's Wagner School of Public Service and as an Affiliated Professor at Meadville Lombard Theological School at the University of Chicago.

The Social Concerns Committee will join the refreshments hosts to enhance the coffee hour.

Two Important Congregational Meetings

Comment on 2011-12 budget May 15

The Board and finance committee will share the 2011-12 budget with the congregation on May 15 at 12:30 p.m. This is the time to have your questions answered and to make any changes before it goes to the full congregational vote on May 22. This is an important budget hearing as we look at what was pledged and what we want to spend. See you there!

Members only- You may view the PROPOSED 2011-2012 UUCM BUDGET. You will need the Members Only User Name and password. Contact the webmaster if you have lost this information.

Annual Congregational Meeting May 22

Membership at UUCM has its privileges, and one of those is the opportunity to vote for the budget and the new board members. This year, we are also approving an amended charter to our general endowment fund. This is a vital meeting; please plan to stay after the service on May 22. The meeting begins at 12:30. Contact Jennifer Gennari with questions.

BAFS Thank you Dinner May 20

friend chinese May 20th is the "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! BAFS Dinner" at Rev. Chip & Lisa's home.

The list of folks who brought friends has vanished so here is how it will work:  If you brought a friend any time this year to a UUCM service you are invited!  Don't be shy!

Because the weather promises to be great, Rev. Chip, the grill master par excellence, and Lisa are preparing for an exciting gourmet BBQ on their extended deck in their backyard. (address in your member directory) Bring a sun hat and your appetites around 5:00 PM and Rev. Chip will start serving hot off the grill about 6:00 PM.

Please RSVP to Janette at the UUCM office so we will be ready to feed everyone without testing our faith in a feeding miracle of biblical proportions!

Partner Church Committee Challenge

snake doveIn June Rev. Levente Lazar, his wife, Rev. Erika Demeter, and their children will depart Berkeley to return to their Sovata home.  It has been good to meet and know our partner church minister  and family a little better.  And we are honored that he has been the 2010-2011 Balazs Scholar.  But when he returns, one of his first needs will be a car, so that he and Erika may tend to their 5 congregations.  Before they came here they sold their car which was old and becoming unreliable.
The Partner Church Committee has $500 from the 2010-2011 budget including dedicated funds from our past fundraisers.  We would like to double, even triple that amount to help out on a second-hand car.   We are asking for your generosity  and we challenge you, too.  Let's send the Lazars home with some useful, real cash!  A committee member will be available in the foyer  after church services in May, to receive donations. Or checks made out to UUCM and marked on the information line, PARTNER CAR DONATION,  may be put in the collection basket, or sent to UUCM.  Thank you for helping this important parting gesture.
The Partner Church Committee  (Terry Merrick and Marilyn Nelson, co-chairs, Scott Merrick, Lou Anne Needels)

UUCM Book Group

Adult Education:
Our UUCM Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9 PM, in the Clara Barton Boom.  New members are welcome to come and participate in our lively discussions!  The book for our May 18 meeting is
The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis. This is a fresh narrative of Wall Street characters leading to the 2008 crisis.

New to UU and/or UUCM

Please join Rev. Chip Wright, Linda Haumann, DRE (Director of Religious Education) and Valerie Taylor, lay leader, to learn more about our faith and about UUCM (Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin).

Sunday, May 29th 12:30-2:00, UUCM, Fireside Room
RSVP: Linda Haumann dre@uumarin.org
Childcare provided with advance sign ups.
