Education Connection
|
The month of April is filled with special times here at UUCM as we rejoice in the renewal of life in springtime.
On April 10th there will be an "All Children's Worship" service in the Wright room during the 11am service when students will make tissue paper flowers to bring down to Country Villa on the following Sunday, April 17th. Mike Songster will help organize the field trip on the 17th.
April 24th is the Easter Intergenerational Flower Communion. There will be nursery care ONLY on that day. We're very happy to welcome Maddie Michaels on April 24th as our new paid permanent nursery care provider! Maddie grew up in our congregation, is a UU herself and is also a student at COM working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Please let me know soon if your child might enjoy helping collect flowers in provided baskets on April 24th and bring them to the pulpit at the start of the worship service.
Rev. Chip is planning a child dedication ceremony on April 24th as well. If your child has never been through this ceremony, it's never too late. Essentially the child is ceremonially welcomed into our embracing UU congregation and it's a lovely UU ritual. Please contact Rev. Chip directly at minister@uumarin.org to let him know of your interest.
Please have your child bring an Easter basket that day for the egg hunt in the courtyard immediately after the service. The middle school and YRUU need to arrive no later than 10am to help stuff and hide the eggs. We recycle the plastic eggs, so please have your child put the candy they find in provided paper bags and return the plastic eggs to Mikey!
Rev. Chip presents one more class on ISLAM: April 10th. The deadline for sign ups was March 20th, but if you bring your own lunch, then you're still welcome to attend, however childcare will no longer be available.
The small group circles have welcomed new members and we have room for more! Please contact me if you'd like to join at dre@uumarin.org
I will be on vacation from April 15th-27th but I'll still check my email from time to time.
Happy Spring!
With love and light,
Linda Haumann, DRE

Social Concerns News
|
The Social Concerns Committee hosts information/action speaker luncheons several times a year. Congregants are invited to bring suggestions for Social or Environmental Justice issues and speakers to: socialconcerns@uumarin.org.
----------- UUCM hosts a Social Concerns Information/Action Table during coffee hour after Sunday services.
We UUCM members and friends often put our spiritual values to work in the world in ways both large and small. If you care about, or are involved in, some kind of social justice endeavor that you want us to know about, contact socialconcerns@uumarin.org. to reserve a Sunday for your table. No candidate or individual party can be promoted or denigrated. Any political stand or position MUST be about issues not political figures, candidates or party affiliations. ------------

Social Concerns Notice
| | The Social Concerns Committee's annual November homeless appeal letter motivated an anonymous someone(s) to obtain $6,000 in foundation grants for the rotating shelter project. Wondering why the interfaith project had to end at the end of March, the Committee wanted to use the money to keep the program open through April. We were surprised to learn that operating expenses were $40,000 per month! Partial list: Staffing (Supervisors, attendants, drivers, chaplain, administrative, etc.) Sleeping bags and mats laundry, aspirin, cough syrup, feminine hygiene products. Trash bags (to store sleeping bags in the daytime) masking and duct tape, vehicle purchase and pick-up site rental... |

Don't miss this fun evening for all ages. Keep watching for details. Please contact Linda Haumann at dre@uumarin.org or Ellen Thurmond at ellenthurmond@gmail.com if you'd like to help with the show. It's the Year of the BAFS! | |
And you are invited! BAFS? Well, that is 'Bring a Friend Sundays.' Bring a friend(s) to service at LEAST once a month--or have them bring you! And you can anticipate a reward beyond heaven, on earth: Gourmet dinner at the home of Rev's Chip and Lisa on May 20, 2011!
Here's how it works.
Please note the BAFS Sundays: Second half: Apr. 10 & May 15
All BAFS will offer an opportunity for any new folks to meet with the Minister, the RE Director, our Board President and other leaders of UUCM informally after the service.
So start calling your friends and telling them what a great place the UUCM is and inviting these special people to our special Sundays on top of the hill. A fun time will be had by all!
