Sunday Worship Service
|
|
Oct. 31st, 11 am
"Dia de los Muertos, Halloween and All Saints Day" Rev. Chip with Worship Associate Joan Nelson An Intergenerational Service
Dia de los Muertos: A festival from our Mexican neighbors gives us a wonderful opportunity to honor and celebrate those loved ones who have died. So on Sunday, October 31st, don your skeleton masks and colorful clothes and bring a picture of or an object associated with your loved ones (pets included) who have passed away . Together we will build an alt ar to call their traveling spirits with colorful sugar skulls, flowers, bright music and chocolate. The souls of the dead are waiting for the joy. This is a time to come to understand death in a way we in the northern parts of America seldom do, as our lives continue to be partnered in this ancient dance. On Sunday last, Oct 24, at the church, when our guest minister went to retrieve his umbrella, it was not there. If you might have taken it by mistake would you please return it? It was a sky blue color.

Come to the "UU World" Salon!
|
|
The UUCM "UU World" Salon is a quarterly brown-bag lunch discussion. It's an opportunity for UUCM members and guests (families welcome) to gather and lunch together while the adults discuss an announced topic culled from "UU World" material.
WHEN: November 14th 12:30-1:30 pm in the Fireside room. Mark your calendars for future Salons: Feb. 6 and April 3, 2011.

TOPIC: from the current "UU World": "Religions' common ground? Does interfaith work depend on finding a shared kernel in the different religions, or can we find common ground in other ways? Does Unitarian Universalism depend on the idea that all religions are fundamentally the same?"
SUGGESTED READING: "UU World", Fall 2010, p.57-60.
FLYER
Reading is recommended, but not required, and copies will be at the Salon as well. Please feel free to bring other articles and books on this topic that you'd like to reference during the discussion.
Bring your lunches, bright thoughts, open minds and curious hearts. If you would like childcare, RSVP no later than Nov 9th to Linda Haumann . Please bring brown bag lunch for your children too!

It's the Year of the BAFS!
| |
And you are invited! BAFS? Well, that is 'Bring a Friend Sundays.' Bring a friend(s) to service at LEAST once a month--or have them bring you! And you can anticipate a reward beyond heaven, on earth: Gourmet dinner at the home of Rev's Chip and Lisa!
Here's how it works.
Please note the BAFS Sundays: First half: Nov. 21, Dec 19 & Jan 16 Second half: Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10 & May 15
All BAFS will offer an opportunity for any new folks to meet with the Minister, the RE Director, our Board President and other leaders of UUCM after the service.
So start calling your friends and telling them what a great place the UUCM is and inviting these special people to our special Sundays on top of the hill. A fun time will be had by all!

Work the "No on Proposition 23" phone bank
|
|
Ongoing Phone Bank: The Social Concerns Committee is asking for members to work on the Sierra Club's phone bank to be held at UUCM 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturdays until the election on November 2.
Big oil and other corporations are backing Prop 23 which will undo the major sustainable environment steps that California has adopted. We must not let that happen. The phone bank calls are to environment supporters who don't vote as often as they should, particularly in off year elections.
Please call Emma Cape on her cell at 618-841-4363 to find out more and let her know that you will be coming.
