It's the Year of the BAFS!
| |
And you are invited! BAFS? Well, that is 'Bring a Friend Sundays.' Bring a friend(s) to service at LEAST once a month--or have them bring you! And you can anticipate a reward beyond heaven, on earth!
Here's how it works: One of Rev. Chip's preaching Sundays each month will be designated as a BAFS. The person/s or family who brings the most new people to visit for the first half of the year (now through Jan. 16th) and then the same for the last half of the church year (mid Jan. through May), will receive a gourmet dinner in the home of Rev. Chip and Lisa. And if you manage to get a friend to non-BAFS service just let Rev. Chip know you have a friend with you and we will chalk it up on our tally. And for heaven on earth's sake: you can bring a new friend every Sunday and secure your seat at the table! Ties will not be broken because Rev. Chip and Lisa have a large table or two if needed. The more, the merrier at the Wright/Wiggins household!
Please note the BAFS Sundays: First half: Oct. 24, Nov. 21, Dec 19 & Jan 16 Second half: Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10 & May 15
All BAFS will offer an opportunity for any new folks to meet with the Minister, the RE Director, our Board President and other leaders of UUCM after the service.
So start calling your friends and telling them what a great place the UUCM is and inviting these special people to our special Sundays on top of the hill. A fun time will be had by all!

Come to the Salon!
|
|
The UUCM "UU World" Salon is a quarterly brown-bag lunch discussion. It's an opportunity for UUCM members and guests (families welcome) to gather and lunch together while the adults discuss an announced topic culled from "UU World" material.
WHEN: November 14th 12:30-1:30 pm in the Fireside room. Mark your calendars for future Salons: Feb. 6 and April 3, 2011.
TOPIC: from the current "UU World": "Religions' common ground? Does interfaith work depend on finding a shared kernel in the different religions, or can we find common ground in other ways? Does Unitarian Universalism depend on the idea that all religions are fundamentally the same?"
SUGGESTED READING: "UU World", Fall 2010, p.57-60.
"Dan Harper reviews three books that ask whether all religions have something in common at their core. He argues that it may be more productive to recognize the essential differences between religions. "With a deeper understanding of our differences, we can begin to understand how to coexist peacefully, and to figure out how to work with other religions to make the world a better place. In short, we can start with religions education and head straight to social justice, without getting bogged down in the bottomless swamp of meta-physical speculation." (p63)
Reading is recommended, but not required, and copies will be at the Salon as well. Please feel free to bring other articles and books on this topic that you'd like to reference during the discussion.
Bring your lunches, bright thoughts, open minds and curious hearts. If you would like childcare, RSVP no later than Nov 9th to Linda Haumann . Please bring brown bag lunch for your children too!
Hope to see you there! Questions? Contact Tanya Webster or Linda Haumann.

We will also hear a speaker from Marin Hospice on the myths and facts about hospice. There will be a Q&A afterwards. November 21st: Rev. Chip will share his experience and knowledge on the subject. We will conclude any documentation needed and summarize. Then we'll all eat cake! No one will be turned away. You may still register for any of the classes. Many Thanks to our Landscape Work Party
|
| Many thanks to all who gave up their Saturday morning to work on the landscape at UUCM. What would we do without them? We were able to trim the oaks and cart all the debris to the trailer. Lots of work. We also had a delicious lunch.
Volunteers included:
Marje, Joanne, John & Jan Q., Mikey, Olivia, Wayne, Kevin, Sean, Susan I, Audrey, John B, Peter B, Wanda & Paula.

Work the "No on Proposition 23" phone bank
|
|
Ongoing Phone Bank: The Social Concerns Committee is asking for members to work on the Sierra Club's phone bank to be held at UUCM 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturdays until the election on November 2.
Big oil and other corporations are backing Prop 23 which will undo the major sustainable environment steps that California has adopted. We must not let that happen. The phone bank calls are to environment supporters who don't vote as often as they should, particularly in off year elections.
Please call Emma Cape on her cell at 618-841-4363 to find out more and let her know that you will be coming.
