Sunday Worship Service North Bay Revival!
|
| Oct. 10, 2010 10:30 am at the Santa Rosa Congregation
A Sustainable World and a Dream of Justice
For the last several years the congregations of Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Marin, Petaluma, Napa and Lake County have joined together in Santa Rosa for a wonderful service featuring all the ministers and choirs.
CARPOOLING and CORNBREAD!
Keep it green!
If you are planning on attending our North Bay UU REVIVAL! please consider ridesharing or carpooling. Unless you directly make your own arrangements with others (such as the choir who needs to be there early for practice), please let Janette know or leave a message at the office (415) 479-4131 if you are willing to drive people, or if you need a ride. We will plan on having the cars come to the UUCM church parking lot around 9:30 AM. (PS - Novoto folks can arrange a different meeting location if desired.) Directions to Santa Rosa Congregation.
Keep it yellow!
And remember to plan to stay for lunch. Our UUCM is charged with bringing the cornbread so if you have a favorite cornbread recipe (or just a good one), make it up and bring it along. The Santa Rosa congregation will provide the chile and the Petaluma fellowship will bring the salad. FYI, we will be feeding some 350 or more fellow UUs!
The REVIVAL! will be highlighted by lots of music, choir anthems, tailored stories and flying congregational banners. A joint children's program will also be provided. You won't want to miss this great combined service and celebration of our UU values!!! Informal Discussion Service 11:00 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin Worship Associate Rodney GothelfFor those people who can't make the REVIVAL! there will be an informal discussion which will take place in the Marin congregation at this usual time.

Minister's Musings
| |
Rev. Chip Wright October, 2010 As the new church year gets going I am aware of the upcoming election on Nov 2nd and want to be sure to say how important it is to vote. I know that in our UU circles it is not usually an issue. We like to make our opinions known in all ways possible for the most part. But there are many who just let things go, believing that it will be the same no matter what they do. So why spend the energy to vote? If you happen to know someone like that, and I bet we all do, please take some time to talk to them. I don't expect that you can change the apathy overnight that has taken years to build to the point that it has. But you can help in starting to open the process up.
We live in a culture that is all about the immediate and so it is understandable that some folks would be feeling unenthusiastic about an election. But if you can convince someone who you know who does not participate to do so, you can make a truly important step in returning this nation to a nation for the people and of the people.
We all know that we will not get all we wish for right away, yet we can move step by step and in fact that is the only way we can. But to do so, we must take these first steps of making them count our vote, which in turn CAN make our vote count. We have in this last election shown that the standard can be shifted. Let us let continue the good fight and help bring out another new vote. Thanks!

A Turn at the Helm |
Jennifer Gennari
President, Board of Directors
October, 2010
What a joyous start to the year! We welcome one and all to our sanctuary on the hill.
I was especially proud to see our YRUU carry the Standing on the Side of Love banner around the service in September. It's a reminder that our faith is vibrant and active around the nation-standing up for the right to marry, the rights of immigrants and religious freedom for all.
How will we show Marin that we are standing on the side of love? Join us, as we make meals for the homeless and shelter them. We can minister to each other, too, in loving conversations about parenting and aging. If you are new to UUCM, stop and ask me how to get involved. Being a part of a community means sharing and growing, as we journey on our paths.
Whatever we do, let's do it in love.

Work the "No on Proposition 23" phone bank and Oct. 9 Kick-off Rally
|
|
Ongoing Phone Bank: The Social Concerns Committee is asking for members to work on the Sierra Club's phone bank to be held at UUCM 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturdays until the election on November 2.
Big oil and other corporations are backing Prop 23 which will undo the major sustainable environment steps that California has adopted. We must not let that happen. The phone bank calls are to environment supporters who don't vote as often as they should, particularly in off year elections.
Please call Emma Cape on her cell at 618-841-4363 to find out more and let her know that you will be coming.
Kick-off Rally: Meet up with Crush 23 organizers at the Climate Challenge Kick-off Rally this Saturday, October 9, 1:00 at San Rafael City Plaza to help sign up voters to pledge to Vote No on Prop 23, Big Texas Oil's dirty energy proposition that would gut California's historic climate law. Saving this law--and the green jobs that it is generating--from Big Oil money is the epic environmental battle of this election. Come work for democracy and the environment this weekend!

Landscape Work Party Oct. 16th
|
| We are having a work party Oct. 16th. All are invited.
Just so that you know, we are planning to take down the oak tree directly on the right of the path outside the fireside room.
The trunk is badly deteriorated and we think it prudent to take it down before it falls.
Wayne L has volunteered his services to do this, but we will need lots of help in the cleanup effort.

It's the Year of the BAFS!
| |
And you are invited! BAFS? Well, that is 'Bring a Friend Sundays.' Bring a friend(s) to service at LEAST once a month--or have them bring you! And you can anticipate a reward beyond heaven, on earth!
Here's how it works: One of Rev. Chip's preaching Sundays each month will be designated as a BAFS. The person/s or family who brings the most new people to visit for the first half of the year (now through Jan. 16th) and then the same for the last half of the church year (mid Jan. through May), will receive a gourmet dinner in the home of Rev. Chip and Lisa. And if you manage to get a friend to non-BAFS service just let Rev. Chip know you have a friend with you and we will chalk it up on our tally. And for heaven on earth's sake: you can bring a new friend every Sunday and secure your seat at the table! Ties will not be broken because Rev. Chip and Lisa have a large table or two if needed. The more, the merrier at the Wright/Wiggins household!
Please note the BAFS Sundays: First half: Oct. 24, Nov. 21, Dec 19 & Jan 16 Second half: Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10 & May 15
All BAFS will offer an opportunity for any new folks to meet with the Minister, the RE Director, our Board President and other leaders of UUCM after the service.
So start calling your friends and telling them what a great place the UUCM is and inviting these special people to our special Sundays on top of the hill. A fun time will be had by all!
