Minister's Musings
|
| Rev. Chip Wright September, 2010 September
is here and with it comes the new church year, a time that signals
renewed energy and growth. As we enter into this exciting time together
we make a commitment to be the best people we can to one another And we
make the commitment to share in the work and joy of helping to make a
better world for all. Although these expectations are a tall order, such
intentions are at the heart of a Unitarian Universalist community. With
this commitment comes the friendships, the learning, the self
discovery. It is a time of personal growth, of richness, of discovering
the excitement of new ways of being in the world. These are the promises
of being a part of a rich and evolving community. Certainly
this UUCM congregation has already shown that it is a place where a
person can join to make a real difference in the world around, as well
as in their own inner life. And together we can continue to build on
this promise. So for welcoming Sunday, on Sept 12th, remember to bring
not only waters and stones and symbols of your summers' memories, but to
bring your best selves as we choose to step into the future together.
Expect to care for one and other, and for others to care for you. And
through this care we will be able to do all the things we wish and
create that which we haven't even thought about wanting yet. So
let us look ahead into this new church year--knowing that as we place
yet another ring in the trunk of this wonderful and evolving liberal
religious community of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin,
that our lives in this community will find new, unparalleled meaning
and value.

Education Connection

|
Linda Haumann Director of Religious Education September, 2010
I'm
looking forward to seeing all of you again after a relaxing summer hiatus. We
launch the church year with our traditional "Water and Stones"
Intergenerational Ingathering service on Sunday, September 12th.
Please bring water or stones from your summer travels. Nursery care will be
provided for our littlest ones, but all other children and youth will join in
this wonderful UUCM tradition of sharing our lives and building our sense of
community as we reconnect. Regular
RE (Religious Education) classes start on Sun., 9/19 and we have
brand new registration forms! You'll
be receiving the parent letter and new forms via email but hard copies of the
form will be on RE table in the UUCM foyer as well. Returning and new families
alike need to complete the forms and leave them in the RE box in the community
workroom at UUCM. The grade splits, curricula and meeting rooms for
this year are as follows: Nursery/PreK: Tina Sarabandi, nursery care provider, guides our
young ones through the 7 UU principles in action and play. Meets in the nursery
and rooms off the nursery. Grades K-2: "Picture Book World Religions": Explores world
religions through stories and other hands-on activities. Meets in Wright room
(WR) at the bottom of the stairs. Grades 3-5: "Toolbox of Faith": Explores 7 UU principles applying
tools for faith development. Meets in Fireside room on main floor. Grades 6-8: "Amazing Grace": Explores ethics and our 7 UU
principles through skits, plays and debate. Clara Barton room on main floor. YRUU (High School): Dan Mansergh, youth advisor, guides youth
towards developing self-governance, leadership, personal faith development,
worship and community service. Meets in the "Dream Room" on the main floor. On
the Adult Education scene, small group ministry groups continue this year and
both groups have spaces for anyone interested. One group meets on the second
Monday of the month from 7-9pm in homes and the second group meets at UUCM on
the 3rd Thursday of the month from 1:15-2:45. Please contact me if
you'd like to join. Please watch for more offerings of adult education classes!

Music Notes

Phil Hildreth Credentialed Music Leader Director of Music September 2010 Music Notes:
Hello all and welcome to the first
Music Notes of the year. I am so pleased to be your Director of Music as
music is so important to our lives and to our Sunday services. I plan
on a wonderful, musical, uplifting and meaningful journey this year.
If
you wish to sing in our UUCM Adult choir please see me or contact me.
It's not all that hard and always fun. I am also hoping for a nice sized Children's Choir this
year and we will start rehearsing on October 3rd. I will contact the
usuals about a pizza party in September. If you want your child to sing
with us please contact me asap.
This summer I attended my UUMN (Musician's Network)
conference, in Madison WI, and as it is always an inspiration and my
resource for anthems for the coming year, it was truly a one of a kind
experience. I only hope Milton can come with me in the years to come. We
had a piece of music written for our 250 member choir, (all the UU
musicians at the conference) and it was truly spiritual. The director
for our choir was a very accomplished conductor by the name of Stephen
Alltop. I will write more about the conference later this year.
I am also taking a beginning string workshop at the College
of Marin this fall with my cello and maybe Milton and I can play at a
service in the future. You know I write this so I cannot back out... hehe.

|
| On the first Sunday of every month, UUCM provides dinner tor the residents of Mill Street Shelter. This effort has been shared by many people over the past four years. It's sign -up time again. If you would like to provide a main dish
to serve 25, or a large salad, please let June Fesler know what month
you can do so. She will make a schedule and contact you. Contributors bring food to the kitchen on Sunday morning, and it is delivered later that day. We will need volunteer contributors starting in October.
|
Thank you to Joanne Derby! and the Hospitality Committee |
| Thank you Joanne for many years of assuring we have coffee to drink on Sunday mornings before and after services. Joanne will release this responsibility on Sept. 12 when she will make sure, one last time, that we have coffee for our annual Re-Membering & Ingathering Service. Volunteers will be needed to help with set-up and clean-up. If you would like to help carry the coffee tradition forward, please call Joanne or Marge.
Take note coffee lovers: this tradition will only continue if there are coffee servers...and a coffee server scheduler.
