Sunday Worship Service
|
| Sunday, August 8, 10:00 AM "Participation Service" Dick Park with Worship Associate Rodney GothelfThe Participation
Service has its roots in the Quaker Meeting. There is quiet music and
introductory words at the beginning, and quiet music at the end, but in
between, the silence is broken only by individuals sharing thoughts and
feelings that are significant to them. View and Print August Services

UUCM Summer Service Hours
|
| Sunday services (beginning July 4 and ending August 29) start at 10 am. Services are lay led. There is no Contemplative Service. There are no refreshments after the services, just coffee. There is also no choir. Just a bare bones service with a chance to get to know one another better.

Century Plant |
| The Century Plant (Agave americana) at the edge of the
hill in our parking lot, is blooming! Over the last few
months it has sent up a huge stalk, about 25' tall, which is now covered
with flower buds. The Century Plant only blooms once and then dies,
because the production of the stalk and flowers takes so much out of the
plant. So don't miss this rare and spectacular botanical event!

Update from the Partner Church Committee
|
| We wish to thank those who have already
contributed to the fund to help bring to Berkeley the whole family of
next year's Balazs scholar, Rev. Levente Lazar, who is also the
minister of our Partner Church in Sovata. So far we have received approximately $600. To recap briefly, when Levente applied for
the scholarship, he was told that this year it could only fund the
scholar, spouse and one child. Levente and his wife Erika have two. They felt that they could not leave one behind. We empathize with that,
and along with several other churches who are also partner churches of
the Revs. Levente and Erika, we are trying to raise enough money to bring
along the second child. The opportunity for Levente to attend the
Starr King School for the Ministry is a broadening opportunity for
him; we too will be able to meet him and learn more about his church and
members. To donate, please make your check out to UUCM and put "Balazs
Scholar" on the memo line or donate on the UUCM website.
