Sunday Worship Service
|
| Sunday, July 4th, 10:00 AM "Faith of the Free" Sharon Wylie, Seminarian from Starr King School for the Ministry with Worship Associate Rodney Gothelf
The
history of Unitarian Universalism is full of stubborn, opinionated
people who died fighting for the right to practice freedom of religion.
This Independence Day, let's savor our own freedom to believe as we
choose and remember our forebears who helped make this freedom
possible.

ACOUUSTIC CAFE presents: UUCM's own pianist Milton Wong and his friend Frank Lahorgue bring their chamber ensembles together for a recital of Romantic Era chamber music by Richard Strauss and Ludwig Thuille. The two large works programmed for the evening are at once complementary and contrasting, one for strings and piano, the other for wind instruments and piano. For this evening, Milton will switch to playing his viola. Don't miss this chance to hear chamber music too seldom heard in these modern times. More info about the music

Partner Church Committee News
|
| We have a joy and a sorrow to report. First the good news: Levente Lazar, the minister of our partner church in Sovata, will be the next Balazs Scholar 2010-2011 at the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley. Hurray! But when he applied he was informed that he and his wife and only one child could be funded. Levente and Erica have two children. a boy about 11 and a girl about 7. When Levente was asked which child he would leave behind he said that he could not leave either one; they were a family. So we and the other partner churches, two for Levente and two for Erica, want to help in this funding. The person in charge of the Balazs Scholar program said that we would be responsible for about $800. We are asking you to donate- on the Web or by putting your check to UUSM in an envelope and marking it, Belazs Scholar, and mailing it, or slipping it through the slot of Janettes's office door. Thank you. If 40 of our members donated $20 each, we would be there!
The sorrow for which we wish to ask your sympathy is a tragedy in Transylvania where a young minister killed himself and his two children. His wife is very ill with cancer. This kind of tragedy may occur when the one who is supposed to minister to others, needs help himself. The Transylvanian community is shocked and saddened by this event and we send them our good thoughts.
