Members: Mark Your Calendars for Two Important Budget Meeting!
|
| Two important meetings regarding
the budget are coming up. On Sunday, May
16, after the service, there will be a meeting to discuss the budget and for
the Board to receive any comments or concerns from members of the
congregation. Then on May 23, there will
be a congregational meeting after the service to vote to adopt the budget. A copy of the budget can be found in the
"members only" section of the web page.
You may also call the office to request a copy.
We move into the coming budget
year in slightly better shape than last year.
The large deficit we anticipate has been mitigated by additional pledge,
gifts and fundraising incomes, and the frugality of staff and committees has
reduced spending. The budget projected
for next year, which is predicated on more optimistic estimates of pledge and
fundraising incomes, show a smaller, but not insignificant deficit.
The budget addresses all
essential ongoing services, maintains all current employees at current rates
and hours, and provides funds requested by committees. It does not include some important elements,
including repayment of the endowment loan, fair share contributions to UUA and
PCD, or any increase in rate or hours for any of the staff.
Regarding the endowment, please
be aware that adoption of this budget will defer payment on the $200,000
endowment loan another year. If you have
particular concerns about this, or any other aspect of the budget, please come
to the meeting on May 16, or if you are unable to do so, contact the Treasurer,
Margaret Johnston or the President, Jennifer Gennari

Social Concerns Committee News
|
| UUCM Social Activist Gets Green Award Having spent 14 of her 92 years on the Board of the Marin Conservation League, Inka Benton has received a Lifetime Environmental Leadership Award. She is honored for "putting the environmental ethic into daily practice and inspiring others to follow her example." And, as some of us have noticed, she ain't done yet! Marin Desalination Initiative needs signatures to be on November Ballot The Social concerns committee is also proud of our own indomitable, indefatigable Katherine DaSilva Jain. Neither broken bones nor wheelchairs nor leg casts can slow down her perpetual commitment to social action. This time, she's gathering hundreds of signatures |
