Sunday Worship Service
|
| Sunday, May 2nd, 11:00 AM "10,000 Years of Light"
Starr King student Joel Gilbertson-White with Dick Park, Worship Associate
Multiple
concurrent crises have been resident in this world since long before
any of us were born. While most acts of nature are beyond our control,
the vast majority of the crises that exist today can be traced to human
causes. As Unitarian Universalists, we have other dreams that we want
to bring into being. Let's explore a vision of what is possible in an
intentional world which celebrates universal peace and security, and
consider what may be required to realize a vision like this.

Rev. Chip Wright May, 2010
Time
is a fascinating thing. It has captivated the minds and curiosity of
humans for as long as we have experienced it. We exist in such a small
little piece of time, yet we conceive of the infinite expanse time lays
out in front as well as behind us. It is indeed a fascinating and
universal human experience. And yet it is a fragile experience as well. Each time a death happens in our congregation I am intimately aware of
life being so short nestled within time being so long. In the last few
months this difficult intimacy has been fairly steady, as several of
our dear friends and long standing members here have left us. It is
sad for us to see such dear friends pass out of our lives. And yet
their spirits of laughter, love, care and support live on to inhabit
this place. This liberal religious community made manifest here in
Marin will always hold their heartbeat and breath, as long as we
continue to support and keep well this dream of the beloved community. They have left us a task of love to nurture and grow this liberal
religious home for all who would find peace, joy, warmth, and growth in
its caring walls. What a gift we have been given and will continue to
treasure! Rev. Chip

Jennifer Gennari UUCM Board President May, 2010
When new employees start at my workplace, their only job for
the first two weeks is to sit down one-on-one with key staff and learn how we
do things. In those half-hour meetings, we have time to discuss work and get to
know each other. When we give someone a new job at UUCM, how well do we explain
what is expected?
This year, I'm very proud of Lee Fitzgerald, Nikki Gothelf,
and Suzi Musgrove. As members of our new Leadership Development Committee, they
were tasked with recruiting new board members. They interviewed people,
compiled lists, and then wrote a letter to five candidates outlining
expectations and the commitment. Frankly, we were all skeptical. Good old
arm-twisting had worked in the past-why change?
The reasons are obvious. We have solid nominees who have
thoughtfully accepted the task of helping to lead our congregation. There is no
frantic scrambling to fill the slate in time for the Annual Meeting May 23.
Come and vote!
Thanks also to Dan Mansergh and last year's leaders for the
vision to create the Leadership Development Committee. Last year, Dan wrote in
his president's report that we can't rely solely on this group to find our
leaders and must find new ways to encourage participation. Instead, he wrote,
"part-time,
short-term, and task-oriented projects are much more attractive ways to encourage
involvement."
We can do this. Let's work together to make volunteering
tasks clear and manageable.

Remarkable People
|
| Remarkable
People will meet on Friday, May 14 in the Fireside Ropom at 7:30 p.m.
Our speakers will be two of our very active members Board Treasurer,
Margaret Johnston and Dick Park who is very involved in many of our
committees. So if you have any questions about who is in charge around
here they are bound to know! They have been dedicated UUs for many
years in many different congregations and they are enthusiastic about
their voluntary jobs. Come and meet them. Carolyn Bopp and Carole
Rosvold will host and provide a snack and a sip between speakers. See
you on the hill!

Dream BIG (and often) Sat May 22, 7-9:30 pm |
| The
Goods and Services auction is coming... ...A MESSAGE FROM YOUR AUCTION COMMITTEE
Now that the auction is getting closer (May 22) and people are
donating items we need people to donate their time on the day of the
event. This a great opportunity for new people or those thinking of
joining to get to know members. We need help with setting out all the
donation items, setting the tables at which people will sit, selling
refreshments and tickets for refreshments and cleaning up after the
auction.
If you can help contact Phil and someone will contact you with the details.
Deadline for donations May 2/2010.
Prebidding or viewing of items
This week's eWeekly Featured Item, bid with (up my ante) your eWeekly editor (Ilana) on:

when in season. Includes strawberries, boysenberries, tomatoes, beans,
beets, peas, broccoli, winter squash, pears, apples (4 types), plums,

made the donation to post a poster in their window. Or if you know of a
spot in your neighborhood that displays posters, ask if they will
display ours. Remember to ask first and bring tape. Contact Lisa Wiggins and let her know how many posters you need as soon as possible. |
