Sunday Worship Service
|
| Sunday, April 25th, 11:00 AM "The Earth Forever Turning"
Rev. Chip Wright with Worship Associate Sally Schroeder
2010
is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day-a day that has become a symbol of
a growing awareness in our culture about the importance of
understanding larger relationships and responsibilities. It is also a
good day to honor our new standing as one of a number of UUA Green Sanctuary Congregations!

Education Connection |
|
Linda Haumann, Director of Religious Education
May,
2010
Welcome again to all the wonderful
visiting families. We hope your children are enjoying the Religious Education
(RE) program and that you are getting a chance to meet other families during
the coffee hour.
We
have a few more weeks left of RE classes before the summer break begins! We
hope you put our program on your priority list.
We
host a very special guest storyteller named Naomi Rose on Sunday May 9th.
She has written a compilation of Buddhist children's stories and she'll be
sharing her stories for the elementary aged children with costume and props!
The
middle school class has their camping overnight May 21-22 as part of their
Coming of Age program and the 5th/6th graders have their
last "Neighboring Faiths" fieldtrip to Green Gulch Zen Center on Sunday, May 23rd.
Then
on June 6th the middle school students and two senior high school
students will have their Coming of Age/Bridging Ceremony during the worship
service. This is a special rite of passage for our whole community to
celebrate.
The
last official day of RE is Sunday, June 13th. There will be a short
party during RE class time with the end of the year potluck and
teacher/volunteer recognition to follow. If you've been a teacher or assistant
this year, PLEASE come to get recognized!!! This program could not thrive
without your love and care.
With
love and light,
Linda

Goods and Services auction is coming... ...A MESSAGE FROM YOUR AUCTION COMMITTEE
Donations NeededWe have approximately 25 distinct donations and so we need a lot more. They are due by May 2. Reminder this is our biggest fundraiser and the more donations, the better.
Prebidding All the donations turned in so far are in our auction catalog with photos. You
need to register by filling out a simple form and then you are ready to
bid. This gives you a head start on the bidding at the auction at UUCM.
You may view the items without registering.
Wish List Someone would like someone to donate: An 8x10 or 5x7 black and white or color portrait (framed and matted) taken of my dogs. Good donation for a photographer. If you have any wishes contact Joyce.
Posters If
you have donated a gift certificate, consider asking the store which
made the donation to post a poster in their window. Or if you know of a
spot in your neighborhood that displays posters, ask if they will
display ours. Remember to ask first and bring tape. Contact Lisa Wiggins and let her know how many posters you need as soon as possible. |
Baby Birds Hatched in the UUCM Bird Box
|
| Phil Smith took the two picturesof at least four baby "Oak Titmouses" in our bird box behind the play structure. They are quite young and probably will still be in the box on April 25. The best way to see the parents flying back and forth to feed them is to sit on the edge of the wood border to the play structure and look at the hole in the bird box. It may take awhile but you will see the parents flying in and out with food. John Quinley

Basket Share Finds New Coordinator!
|
| Please
welcome Susan Ingersoll, our new basket share co-ordinator. Susan will
put together the schedule for the 2010-2011 church year, and provide
assistance for presentations. She's a natural for the job -- she works
for a nonprofit, and is knowledgeable and passionate about them.
Our
basket share Sundays for the current year are spoken for, but please
think about sponsoring a nonprofit next year -- an organization that
you deeply care about -- ideally one that you have some involvement
with. You can send her your ideas anytime, at [email protected]
Thank you for stepping forward, Susan!

Annual Summer Family Camping Trip to Sly Park: July 8-11
|
| Dear Friends,
For the past 10 years or so an often varied group of your fellow UUCM'ers and related friends have made an annual trek into the Sierras for a fun weekend of car/RV/tent camping. The time has come to start planning for another year of swimming, hiking, fellowship and more s'mores than you can shake a stick at (but please don't actually shake a s'mores stick, it gets messy).
This year the dates are Thursday, July 8th through Sunday, July 11th. The place is Sly Park on Jenkinson Lake just outside Pollock Pines on Highway 50, and our sites are once again in the Hazel Creek camp and can accommodate tents or RVs. More information about Sly Park.
This has always been a wonderfully rewarding weekend and a great opportunity to get to know folks on a different level than Sunday mornings, but space is limited, so please let me know as soon as possible if you want to be part of this trip. The cost is reasonable, generally about $20 per vehicle per night (pets are $5/night extra).
Please send me an email ([email protected]) or give me a call (415.320.5054) to let me know you want to be a part of this trip, or if you have any questions.
Mikey.
