A Turn at the Helm

jen gennariJennifer Gennari

Board President

It's the year 2010, and the Board of Directors thinks there's something magical about that number 10. Ten, it turns out, is exactly the percentage more we need from each pledge to sustain our congregation. Can we all give 10% more?

Ten is an important number for me, too. After 10 years as a member, I decided to step up and lead. And when I reflect on the decade I've been coming up the hill to this community that gathers with the intention to love the world into a better way-I think I've been getting a bargain.

I've been inspired by words and music. I've been restored by hugs and silence. I've been nurtured by trees and smiles. Have you?

March is our month to ask each of you to commit to supporting the work UUCM does. We've been feeding and sheltering the homeless. We've been educating our children about faith and themselves. We donated about 100 pairs of socks to Marin Street Chaplaincy. We've been a safe spiritual haven.

I feel good about the commitment I've made to UUCM. The amount I give each month has fluctuated as my circumstances have, but this year, when Don Beck asked us to give 10%  more, I said yes. Please join me!

Choir Director

Hello all, It is now pledge time and I want to talk a little about my role here at UUCM. I came here in 1999 to sing in an Easter service and my lawyer at the time was Ben Gale. He paid me to sing in that service. I remember it well. I was then asked by Scott Merrick and Charles Seagrave to become the next Choir Director and the rest is history.

My role, as I see it, is a leadership role in which I am an example for my beloved congregation. I was trained to be a Music Professional by the UUA. I am to empower the congregation to sing with the choir and myself. I provide excellent music as best as I can and enrich our services. It is my distinct pleasure to announce the hymns and maybe give a little bit of information about the hymn itself or the circumstances surrounding the hymn. Part of my training was Hymnody, which is the study of hymns. My choir has a somewhat rapid turn-around when it comes to learning anthems. The sermon topics are mostly just a month ahead so rehearsal time is at a premium.

I plan on having a wonderful Easter anthem in April.
Remarkable People March 12th

The second Friday of each month is Remarkable People.  On March 12, Sher Sheldon and Art Rosvold will speak to us about their lives.

We start at 7:30 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room.  There is a break between speakers for light refreshments, Carolyn Bopp and Carole Rosvold are co-hosts.  Come and meet some of our very interesting members who hail from all over the USA and have unique life experiences.  This is a way to know more about the interesting people who work so hard for our community.  We'll see you on the hill!!

CALL PASTORAL CARE

We are a caring congregation, you can help others and us by calling or referring members to the Pastoral Care Committe for temporary help with meals, transportation, shopping and visitation or just someone to lend a sympathetic ear in times of crisis and need.

Don't hesitate to contact Carol Littrell (Chair) 883-9676 or cjwllittrell@aol.com.

We also need to be notified if a member discontinues attendance without explanation.

Register for District Assembly

April 30 - May 2, Newark, CA

This is the time of year we start getting excited about the great programming we're putting together (with a LOT of help from our friends) for District Assembly.  If you've never been to DA before, this is the year to find out what you've been missing.

This year's theme, Harvest the Power, invokes our belief that we are better together.  We come together to teach and learn and support and inspire one another.  You don't want to miss this.  And we don't want to miss you.

So take a look at the DA pages now posted on our website (with more information still to come). Your early registrations help us plan and save our sanity, so they're very much appreciated.
