Minister's Musings
|
|
The early spring is an exciting time filled with both
opportunity and potential.
This is the time to choose the seeds for your gardens, the
flowers, the peas, corn -- whatever strikes your fancy. Kale or kohlrabi? It is the time when you turn the soil to let
the air in and to fold the past under, the rich compost of new life. It is in this springtime soil that the
possibility of tomorrow is sown.
Spring is an exciting time for lots of reasons, but I think
the most apparent is the potential it can call forth from the inside of all of
us. It is easy to say "I can't," but
spring reminds us that we can! The
future is written like the seasons and we can sow a whole bushel of seeds, the
potential is unlimited, as is the possible harvest.
So as we enter into this pledge drive, please remember how
important this church is and that this soil in which we grow our community has
the full potential spring offers. We all need to bring our time and treasure
and talent to the garden and make sure this UUCM has the soil and seeds it
needs to feed a world that would be starved for the open acceptance and service
which our liberal religious tradition provides.
Thanks for keeping the spring in our efforts as we begin a
new growing season at UUCM.
Rev. Chip

Walker Creek Ranch Retreat Postponed |
|
Thank you to the 44 people who responded to our online survey about
plans to attend Walker
Creek. Only 8 respondents
said they definitely were planning to go, and we have had 60 to 100 people go
in past years. Here are some survey results:
Are you going to the retreat?
Yes (18%) No (55%) Maybe (27%)
If no, why?
Cost is too high (26%), Too busy (24%)
Although only about one-third of our membership took the survey, the
board has made the difficult decision to postpone. Fortunately, Walker Creek
Ranch will hold our deposit until next year. We think an every-other year
schedule is a good plan.
The Quinleys are offering an alternative nature hike on Saturday (see
info). In addition, watch for announcements about the July Sly Park Camping
Trip.

Notes from the Partner Church Committee
|
|
Your Partner Church Committee talked (via Skype) with Rev. Levente Lazar, pastor of our Partner Church in Szovata, Transylvania (Romania) on Saturday, Feb.27. We learned that the inauguration ceremony for the new church would be held on October 2, 2010. Levente would like to have some members of our congregation there to help celebrate the happy occasion. Anyone interested could talk with Terry or Scott Merrick for more information about the church and a possible trip.
Also, we will have a poster and sign-up sheet in the foyer for the Mar. 28 potluck luncheon we mentioned last week. We invite you to come to meet and greet this year's Balazs scholar from the Starr King School for Divinity. Rev. Robert Bálint will talk informally and answer questions. One of his many interests is the Transylvanian Unitarian Youth Project. We would appreciate your signing up for what you will bring or do for the luncheon that day and hope to see you there.

Enjoy the New Spring Exhibit of Watercolors
|
|
BY UUCM MEMBER AND FIRST TIME EXHIBITOR MARGARET JOHNSTON
Margaret
says "I have enjoyed drawing and painting as long as I can remember. I
have always admired watercolor and a few years ago I began taking art
classes at College of Marin. While art remains for me primarily a when I have the time (seldom!) past-time, it is one that is highly
satisfying, and I'm pleased to be able to share this pleasurable
struggle with friends at UUCM."

spectacularly) today...(subdued by the cloud cover). The
women look forward

NELSON ANY IDEAS OF THINGS THAT COULD BE DONE TO MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR THESE
LADIES AFTER THE ROTATING SHELTER ENDS (one month...April

Future Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers
who deliver food for future Sunday sleep-overs may leave the
dish (clearly labeled "Shelter") in the kitchen before 5:30. Volunteers
who stay to break bread with our guests should read the following
