Department News   |   Calendar   |   Reminders   |   Youth Programs   |   Community Bulletin

Greetings!

Beginning this school year, Chaminade Julienne will award class credit on a per semester basis rather than at the completion of a class. This change only affects year-long courses, which are worth 1.0 total credit.

Now, students will earn 0.5 credits at the end of the first semester and another 0.5 at the end of the second semester. Both semester grades will be reported on the student's official transcript.

Also as a result, please note that:

  • Students' grades will start over each semester.
  • Updated GPAs will be calculated at the end of each semester.
  • Exemption from final exams may still be granted to a student at the end of the year in a year-long class if he or she has an A average for the entire year and meets the other exam exemption criteria listed on page 19 of the Student Handbook.
  • Any student who does not earn both of these credits will need to earn the missing credit through a remedial summer school program.

The switch to awarding credits per semester more closely mirrors the system most colleges use. If you have questions or concerns about this change, please contact me or stop in the academic office.

Sincerely,

Steve Fuchs, Director of the Academic Office

Featured Faculty & Staff Member

Linda Colás

Linda Colas Linda is beginning her 30th year teaching Latin and Spanish at CJ, where she's served as moderator of the Language Club for more than 20 years. She is very proud of the club's dedication to helping the Hispanic Catholic Ministry. Throughout the years, she has also led many language tours to both Spain and Italy.

Except for the three years she lived and taught in Cambridge, Ontario, Linda has lived in the Dayton area her entire life. She is also a product of Catholic education. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Dayton and her Master of Humanities from Wright State University. She readily admits that teaching, something she's been doing since 1971, is her vocation.

Linda has two daughters and six grandchildren. She enjoys having the children around and claims it keeps her young and very busy. When she has a few moments, she loves to read, crochet and walk. She also enjoys cooking and playing with the grandkids.

"It's great when we all meet for Mass on Sunday and then get together afterwards," says Linda. "After all, family is super important, and I have two -- my own and the CJ family!"
