HEALTH CLINIC

March is National Nutrition Month

Making small changes in your diet and increasing physical activity can lead to weight loss and overall improved health and well-being. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends the following tips to help you succeed.

  • Set realistic health goals to prevent failure and discouragement.
  • Get a personalized eating plan.
  • Eat three meals a day and avoid eating while doing other activities like watching TV. This can lead to overeating and consumption of unhealthy foods.
  • Eat slowly and stop when you're full. It takes your brain 20 minutes to know your body is getting food.
  • Watch your portion size to help control calorie intake.
  • Find your balance between healthy eating and exercise. Daily exercise not only helps you maintain a healthy weight but also reduces the risk of chronic health diseases and gives you a feeling of well-being.

Joe Whatley '04

http://cjeagles.org/faculty/Joe%20Whatley%20%2704 Joe Whatley is a 2004 graduate of Chaminade Julienne and currently serves his alma mater as a director, producer, club moderator and teacher in the school's performing arts department. He received his Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in vocal music from Wright State University.

In his time attending CJ and WSU, Joe was extremely active in all drama and choral activities. Today, he enjoys studying classical music, playing piano and bass guitar, and fulfilling his duties as music director for several area theatre companies as well as at CJ, where shows have included Little Shop of Horrors, Little Women, Grease, and currently Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Away from CJ, Joe has also lent his expertise directing music for St. Rita Catholic Church and most recently at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Chapels on Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Earlier this March, Joe traveled with Vega -- one of two CJ pop a cappella groups, along with Age V -- to the Lexington Catholic Voices In Harmony pop a cappella competition where the group received the award for best movement and choreography.

Joe is indebted to his colleagues Debi Schutt and John Findley for their dedication and continued hard work in growing the performing arts program at CJ.
