CJ Parent Weekly

Community Update  Department News  |  Calendar  Reminders  Parish Bulletin

Greetings!

The 2012 celebration of National Catholic Schools Week is being observed January 29 through February 5. In recognition of this fun week, a number of people in the CJ community including senior members of FLIGHT, the office of ministry and service, the performing arts department, and our Eagle parent groups have graciously planned some exciting school-wide activities.

Each day, our morning prayers will be centered around celebrating Catholic schools. Before praying together in the morning and afternoon, we will ask one student and one member of the faculty and staff to also share how being in a Catholic school has impacted his or her life.

Students in all religion classes have been writing reflections about the influence of Catholic education in their own lives. Their thoughts will be displayed in our halls throughout the week, and a few will be shared out loud during announcements.

On Tuesday, members of the CJ community are invited to the chapel at 7:30 a.m. to pray the rosary for area Catholic schools. Over the week, CJ will gift the rosaries, along with a card, to each school. During the school day, all students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear a Catholic school t-shirt or sweatshirt (grade school, CJ or college). Uniform bottoms are required.

Then on Thursday, faculty and staff look forward to enjoying a meal together during the appreciation luncheon hosted by members of the Co-Educators. Thanks in advance to all parents who are preparing food or planning to volunteer at this event.

Finally, we invite everyone to join in the celebration of Catholic Schools Week on Sunday, Feb. 5 as CJ proudly hosts the 4th annual Southwestern Ohio Catholic Honor Band concert. The hour-long event, beginning at 3 p.m. in the auditorium, is free and open to the public. Enjoy the combined talents of students representing high schools throughout the Archdiocese as they present four concert pieces.

Thanks to everyone who has worked to make this upcoming week, and the overall Catholic educational experience, special at Chaminade Julienne!

God bless,

February is Spring Phonathon Month at CJ

Our first night of making phone calls to alumni, parents and friends of CJ begins Monday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in the library. The contributions received during this three-week effort by volunteers from within the CJ community make up a large percentage of our Annual Fund, and thus impacts every CJ student.

To ensure the Phonathon's success, we are asking parents, students, faculty, staff and alumni to spend an evening after school with the development office making calls on the following dates:

  • February 6-9
  • February 13-16, and
  • February 21-23 (we will not call on President's Day)

No experience is necessary to take part in any of these fun nights supporting CJ students. Each evening begins with a complimentary dinner and training session for callers. This is the most impactful fundraiser we do all year and your time makes all the difference.

If you would like to schedule a night to work during any of this year's fall Phonathon dates, please contact Caitlin in the development office at 937.461.3740 ext 201

2012-13 Scheduling and Registration

The 2012-13 course registration packets contain a registration and scheduling timeline, information about special scholarships, and a course request worksheet. Consider these options when going over the information with your student:

  • CJ offers summer PE and health classes. Info was included in the course request packets for current freshmen and sophomores.
  • Students can choose to use a physical education waiver to fulfill gym requirements. Anyone who participates in two full seasons of interscholastic athletics, marching band, or cheerleading may be eligible. Reference the 2012-2013 Course Catalog for more information.
  • The flex credit program allows students to earn credit for activities outside of CJ. All flex credit activities require detailed plans and prior approval from CJ's academic office before students can earn credit.  Further information on the flex credit program is available here at cjeagles.org
  • CJ offers an online, single-semester World Literature class for seniors, and an online, single-semester Medical Terminology class for juniors and seniors.

If you have questions about the course registration and scheduling process, please contact your student's counselor directly.
