Greetings!

Although we're just one day into the second semester, now is the time for parents and students to begin looking ahead to next school year.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, all current freshmen, sophomores and juniors will receive course request information for the 2012-2013 school year in homeroom. Students will be informed to share this information with you as soon as possible.

Please look over and discuss this material with your child. Help prepare your student in choosing the classes you both feel he or she should request for next year. Guidance counselors will begin meeting with students individually to confirm their seclections beginning Monday, Jan. 23.

In February, parents will receive a copy of the final course requests. If you have questions regarding course requests, please contact your student's guidance counselor:

stangSTANG SYMPOSIUM

Sunday, February 12   |   1 to 3 p.m.

The CJ class of 2012 will kick off their Senior Justice Project with the second annual Stang Symposium on Human Trafficking on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The community is invited to learn more about human trafficking from a very personal perspective as well as find out the impact both the Marianists and Sisters of Notre Dame are having on this global issue.

While many people in the U.S. believe human trafficking is something outside of our country, our keynote speaker Theresa Flores will share how trafficking is something that happens to our own children and neighbors. As author of The Slave Across the Street and founder of TraffickFree and S.O.A.P, Theresa will peel the cover off of this horrific criminal activity and offer hope and solutions to the injustice.

Flores' mission is to raise awareness about human trafficking and mobilize individuals to act. She currently is the director of education and training for Gracehaven House, a Columbus faith-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide every girl victimized by child sex trafficking with the love, services and support she needs to redeem the life that God has given her, so she can ultimately become a healthy, productive member of her community and world.

Please join us Sunday afternoon for prayer, the keynote address and breakout sessions. If you have questions or would like more information, please email Molly Bardine, English teacher.

You will need one form for each medication that the student will need to take.

Authorization from your doctor is required for all medications, even if they are over-the-counter and all medications are required to be kept by staff. Students are not allowed to carry or self-administer their own medications unless it is an asthma inhaler or epi-pen, in which case an Authorization for Self-Carry Administration of Medication form must be on file with the nurse. Kathleen Zehenny

Zehenny, Kathleen Kathleen Zehenny is in her 11th year at CJ. What started in 2002 as temporary, part-time job has become a full-time adventure. She loves her interaction with the students and faculty, and finds the administrative assistant position in the athletic office to be the most enjoyable job she has ever had.

Kathleen graduated in 1980 from the Ohio State University with a bachelor's in Business Administration. Prior to coming to CJ, Kathleen spent 11 years at DP&L in economic development, community relations and was the administrator of the DP&L Foundation. After leaving the company, Kathleen worked as the marketing director of Culture Works and later served as interim marketing director for the Dayton Opera.

Kathleen is married to Joe, a senior vice president with Key Bank and the voice of CJ Eagles football and women's basketball. She feels one of the best things about working at CJ was being in the building while her daughter Cassie '11 attended and played tennis and basketball. When not at athletic events, the couple enjoys travelling and volunteering. Kathleen loves to cook and is a voracious reader.

Kathleen feels very connected to CJ and has deep family ties to the school. Her sister Peg Regan is a Spanish teacher and chair of the foreign languages department; her brother-in-law Jim Brooks teaches English, and coaches men's and women's tennis; and her father, Ed Regan, is the former longtime principal of Chaminade High School.

"Our whole family life centered around Chaminade events," Kathleen jokes. "My mother actually went into labor with me while attending the dedication and blessing of the brothers' house!"
