December 22, 2011  -  Wishing You a Merry Christmas!

CJ Parent Weekly

Community Update   |   Deptartment News   |   Calendar   |   Reminders   |   Parent Meetings

Greetings!

While each of us prepares for Advent's close and the birth of our Savior, CJ offers this prayer as a humble holiday reminder of the reason for the season. May the light of Christ's birth shine brightly in our hearts, and in every corner of our world.

God grant you the light in Christmas,

which is faith;

the warmth of Christmas,

which is love;

the radiance of Christmas,

which is purity;

the righteousness of Christmas,

which is justice;

the belief in Christmas,

which is truth;

the all of Christmas,

which is Christ.

Amen.

Prayer by Wilda English

Due to Christmas break, we will not be sending a Parent Weekly newsletter next Thursday. For the latest updates and information, be sure to frequent cjeagles.org during our time out of session.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Christmas Blessings,

From the Chaminade Julienne Community

MINISTRY & SERVICE

Save & Donate Christmas Cards After the Holidays

Save your religiously-themed Christmas cards and send them in to the office of ministry and service after Christmas Break. CJ takes the cards to children in Belize during the summer mission trip each year. These children do not receive Christmas cards, and they reuse the cards we collect to send to loved ones.

CJ STEMM

FREE Interactive Learning Session at CJ

Professionals from the STEM Education and Training Directorate of Riverside Research will co-facilitate a hands-on session at CJ in which students will learn about space science, remote sensing, satellites, unmanned vehicles, and how various STEMM disciplines are needed to improve the tools of scientific discovery and engineering application.

Continuing our focus on the Grand Challenges of Engineering, students will use an e-text developed by Riverside Research. If your son or daughter attended our 2011 summer camp, they were exposed to this e-text and heard from presenter Todd Simpson of Riverside Research, who also demonstrated the capabilities of a remote-controlled helicopter. This session will expand on topics introduced then.

There is no fee to attend, but space is limited to 30 students and participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. To register your child, email or mail back the registration form. You will receive an email confirmation upon receipt of your registration.

Exploring STEMM Opportunities Over Break

All students interested in using part of their summer to explore STEMM career fields, and participate in a program that would look great on a college application or job resume, should check out the numerous programs listed on the Internships and Summer Programs Web pages under CJ STEMM. Programs encompassing topics including engineering, science, nursing, medicine and more are open to high school students in all grade levels.

Encourage students to use Christmas break to explore these summer internship and program opportunities, and check into specific program and application requirements -- it is not too early! Most summer programs are accepting applications now and the good ones will fill up quickly. Application deadlines generally occur soon after the New Year.

Students are advised to train on their own for the tests before taking them. For training information, testing dates and general program information, visit the Business & Technology Department's Web page located under the Academics tab.

John Zaidain '68

Zaidain, JohnJohn Zaidain is in his 39th year at Chaminade Julienne. He has served the school as a social studies and physical education teacher while coaching football, men's and women's tennis, and men's volleyball. John also had short stints as assistant and co-athletic director. His most recent accomplishment has been the establishment of the very popular summer physical education program.

John's association with CJ began as a Chaminade student. Upon graduating high school in 1968, he served as a volunteer football coach for two years while still attending college at the University of Dayton. John is a 1972 graduate of UD, and he received his Master's degree from Miami University in 1973.

John and his wife Kathy, a contract manager at NCR and MeadWestvaco, will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in February. Their two daughters, Jessica '02 and Joanna '05, both reside in Columbus.

John's passions are his family, his teaching, and his coaching but he recently branched out in a different direction and completed the requirements to become a master gardener.

When asked the common question, "When are you going to retire?" John usually responds, "Where could I go and be with such wonderful people in such a caring

environment."
