CJ Parent Weekly

Community Update  Deptartment News  Updates  |  Calendar  Reminders  Parent Meetings

Greetings!

As we move further into the winter season, the possibility of a school closing or delay due to inclement weather conditions increases. To keep parents informed of these updates, CJ is using the One Call Now phone messaging system.

To ensure the most effective use of this system, CJ has scheduled a test message that will be sent to all parents on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m.

If you do not receive One Call Now messages from CJ, or if you would like to update your contact information, please email Steve Fuchs, director of the academic office. You may add multiple phone numbers to our listing.

In the event of inclement winter weather, CJ will also use the local news media as well as the announcements section of the cjeagles.org home page to inform the community of the latest news regarding closings and delays.

I encourage everyone to reference the inclement weather procedures at our Web site for more details, or contact John Marshall, principal, with questions regarding these student safety measures.

Sincerely,

Tina Wagoner, Communications  |  email

MINISTRY & SERVICE
Urban Plunge Retreat February 24-26, 2012
Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are invited to participate in Urban Plunge, sponsored by the Ozanam Center for Service Learning (part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society) in Cincinnati. This weekend retreat will involve a "plunge" into the inner city where students will learn about the poverty, homelessness, and other needs existing there.

Students will spend their days doing service, and evenings will be spent in prayer, reflection and simple community living. The cost is $70 and the retreat will be limited to 12 students. Applications are due Thursday, Dec. 15 and can be downloaded from the Service Learning Trips Web page under the Ministry & Service tab.

Save & Donate Christmas Cards After the Holidays

Save your religiously-themed Christmas cards and send them in to the office of ministry and service after Christmas Break. CJ takes the cards to children in Belize during the summer mission trip each year. These children do not receive Christmas cards, and they reuse the cards we collect to send to loved ones.

GUIDANCE
A Helpful Tip for Seniors Submitting College Apps
Students submitting college applications electronically using Family Connection, CJ's eDocs provider, need not be concerned if no immediate response is given by the school to which he/she applied. Students should also not be alarmed to receive automated email messages from schools upon submitting an application.

According to representatives at Family Connection, colleges and universities have a specific process they follow after they download application documents. Often times, documents sent through eDocs are not immediately available to the admissions office at the college or university. Many schools receiving a high volume of applications may need several weeks for the information to be updated in their system.

Kelly Muhl, administrative assistant in guidance, receives an email confirmation of all students' eDocs submissions ensuring that the documents have been received at the institution. However, it does not mean that the documents have been entered into the college/university's admissions database.

Be assured that unless a counselor informs you of missing items, the guidance office is submitting documents immediately upon receiving transcript requests and fees. Please contact the guidance office with questions about using Family Connection. For questions about specific applications, please speak directly with the admissions office of the college or university in question.

Angela Ruffolo

Angela Ruffolo Angela Ruffolo is in her 18th year at Chaminade Julienne. She joined the faculty as a social studies teacher immediately after graduating from the University of Dayton. This year, Angela is teaching AP and college prep U.S. Government, psychology, economics, and a newly added course titled The American Presidency.

Angela loves being at CJ and proudly calls herself an Eagle! She feels the Marianists and the Sisters of Notre Dame have created a school where everyone feels welcome, where faith is given a chance to grow and develop, where doing well in academics is emphasized and where community spirit is fostered in all aspects. She has been blessed to have made many close friends during her time at CJ including former faculty member Alex Schuster, whom she married this past summer.

What she enjoys most about teaching is working with the students at CJ. In addition to teaching, Angela moderates Student Council and the Senior Class Trip to Washington D.C. She previously coached soccer for 13 years at CJ.

Working with students inside and outside the classroom is important to Angela as it enables her to continue building the CJ family spirit. Angela believes getting involved and having a positive attitude help make the CJ experience more complete for everyone!
