Greetings!
During the 2011-2012 school year, nearly 75 percent of current CJ students received more than $1.8 million in financial assistance thanks to generous contributions from alumni, local foundations and our sponsoring congregations.
Once again, it is time for families to start preparing for next school year's tuition assistance process by completing the Private School Aid Service (PSAS) application form.
To be considered for tuition assistance for the 2012-13 school year, PSAS applications -- including all supporting documentation -- must be completed and postmarked by December 1, 2011. Application forms were sent home earlier this month and copies can be picked up in the Welcome Center or accessed at cjeagles.org (download pdf). Families can also submit an electronic application directly to PSAS by visiting their Web site, PSAS.org.
CJ staff members will be available to assist you in the application process during two tuition assistance information sessions held in the library on the following dates:
- Wednesday, November 2, 3:30 p.m.
- Thursday, November, 3, 6:00 p.m.
If you have questions, please contact the Welcome Center at 461.3740 x214. Sincerely,
Cindy Budde, Assistant to the President | email

Safety Drills Performed at CJ
On Wednesday afternoon, CJ students, faculty and staff performed a lockdown drill to practice the school's plan of action in the event of the potential threat of violent acts. Safety drills like these are routine procedures in schools at all levels. At CJ, fire, tornado and lockdown drills are practiced periodically as mandated by government officials in order to prepare students in case of an emergency
Fire is a small, but nonetheless potential, threat to any building and fire drills prepare the faculty and students for action in the event of a real fire. All schools in Ohio are required to practice fire drills once per month while school is in session.
Others, like tornado and lockdown drills, are practiced less frequently. Tornado drills, for instance, are practiced only in the spring during the tornado season. More recently, state and local officials have begun mandating the routine practice of lockdown drills. Many schools now practice these drills at least once each year.
If you have questions about any of these safety drills, please contact me.

Aseptic Meningitis
We have received confirmation that a CJ student has been infected with a case of aseptic meningitis. Aseptic meningitis is generally caused by viruses and occurs primarily in children. People become infected by inhaling or ingesting the virus. More info about aseptic meningitis >
Even though aseptic meningitis is not as serious as other strains, CJ is informing parents, faculty and staff to watch for the following symptoms should students become ill within the next few weeks: fever, headache, lack of appetite, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, and stiff neck. These symptoms generally go away with no permanent damage after a few days to a week.
If your son or daughter develops these symptoms, it is advised to contact a doctor or health professional and inform him or her of your student's possible exposure to aseptic meningitis. Spread of the virus can be reduced and controlled by washing hands frequently and by not sharing drinking cups.
If you have further questions, please contact the school nurse at 461.3740 x227, or Public Health-Dayton and Montgomery County at 225.4508 or 496.7699.

REMINDERS
Final Exam Notifications
Exams are given both in December and in May/June. It is important for all students to be in attendance on exam days. Please avoid scheduling conflicts such as routine doctor appointments, family vacations, college visits, etc. during the exam days. More information regarding exam attendance is available in the Student Handbook on
page 23. In order to eliminate the possibility that a student will have three exams scheduled in one day, there will be a slight modification to the exam dates printed in the original school calendar. The December exams will be given on December 16, 19, 20, and 21. The final exams will be given on May 29, 30, 31, and June 1. The specific schedules will be published closer to exam times.
