CJ Parent Weekly

Community Updates  |  Updates  Calendar  Reminders  |   Parish Bulletin News

Greetings!

Congratulations to members of the Eagles women's golf team who, for the first time in the program's short, five-year history, won the Division II State championship last weekend in Columbus! Learn more about the team and view photos from their huge victory here at cjeagles.org.

The girls' title marks the beginning of what is sure to be an exciting end to the fall athletic season. I invite you to keep close tabs on the Eagles by supporting our student-athletes at a few of these upcoming games and matches:

  • Tonight, our feature team of the week -- women's soccer -- begins postseason play at Tippecanoe High School. Game time is 7 p.m. (directions).
  • After qualifying last weekend, tennis players Mary Haley '12 and Brooke Sandridge '13 will compete for a second fall state title at the Division II women's doubles tournament beginning Friday morning at Ohio State University (directions).
  • On Saturday morning our men's and women's cross country runners will compete in the District meet at Miami Valley Career Technology Center (directions).
  • At 2 p.m. Saturday our women's volleyball team plays their second Sectional match against Talawanda at Springboro High School (directions).
  • Following the Eagles 2-0 victory last night, men's soccer has advanced to round two of their tournament this weekend to face Monroe at 7 p.m. Saturday (location TBD).

Lastly, stay tuned to CJ football as the regular season ends with two remaining GCL games. The Eagles enter this week's contest with Purcell Marian (rescheduled from Saturday night to this Friday at 7:30 p.m.) as WDTN's Team of the Week.

Then on October 28, Goodwill and WHIO will recognize the team's much-anticipated match-up with Alter as the Drive to Victory game of the week! As part of the week's festivities, CJ and Alter will both be accepting donations for the Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley store. The school that collects the most weight can win up to $900 in scholarships.

A trailer will be accepting donations at CJ Monday through Thursday, October 24-27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, October 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. I encourage all community members to drop off your heaviest items and help us beat the Knights on and off the gridiron!

As always, you can keep up on all the action at cjeagles.org, or follow the athletic office on Twitter to receive news, updates and information instantly.

Thank you for your support of our student-athletes.

GO EAGLES!

Final Exam Notifications
Exams are given both in December and in May/June. It is important for all students to be in attendance on exam days. Please avoid scheduling conflicts such as routine doctor appointments, family vacations, college visits, etc. during the exam days. More information regarding exam attendance is available in the Student Handbook on page 23.

In order to eliminate the possibility that a student will have three exams scheduled in one day, there will be a slight modification to the exam dates printed in the original school calendar. The December exams will be given on December 16, 19, 20, and 21. The final exams will be given on May 29, 30, 31, and June 1. The specific schedules will be published closer to exam times.

Beth Marshall

CJ Employee Weekly Update Mrs. Beth Marshall is enjoying her sixth year as a member of the Chaminade Julienne community.  After teaching at Hamilton High School and Lakota High School, she took 10 years off to raise her family, returning to teach part time at CJ in 2005.

She has been full time for three years, and is excited to teach Junior CP and Honors English courses, in addition to Senior World Literature Online which she developed and piloted last year. Beth is a founding member of the CJ Ski/Snowboard Club and is faculty representative for the Parents of Performing Arts Students, which is a natural fit, as two of her children are involved in the performing arts at CJ.

Beth met her husband John '86 (principal) while they were both student teaching at Preble Shawnee High School.  For the past 20 years they have been coaching sports, advising clubs, teaching classes, chaperoning trips and moderating dances in the high school environment. In every high school community of which they have been a part, they have made a conscious decision to live within and pray with those they serve.

The Marshalls have four children: Kathryn, a junior at CJ; David, a freshman at CJ; William a 5th grader at Holy Angels; and Carolyn, a 3rd grader at Holy Angels. Beth and John are both grateful for the incredible opportunities CJ continues to offer to them and to their children.
