CJ Parent Weekly

Community Update   |   Updates   |   Calendar   |   Reminders   |   Youth Programs

Greetings!

Don't miss your chance to watch the first-ever performance by Age V, CJ's newest vocal addition to the performing arts line-up, as the group debuts alongside it's pop a cappella predecessor Vega at the fall concert next week. Autumn Overtures: An Evening of Music begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium on Tuesday, October 18.

We invite the whole family to this free event where, in addition to both our a cappella groups, you will hear music from the CJ string ensemble (also debuting), the Eagle pep band, concert band and concert choir along with a performance by elementary band students. Come by early and stay late to attend one or both receptions hosted by the Parents of Performing Arts Students (PoPS) in the cafeteria:

  • Preceding the concert at 6 p.m., parents of elementary band students are invited to hear from PoPS members, ask questions about the Performing Arts department and enjoy a slideshow while learning about opportunities available to CJ students.
  • All concert-goers are invited to stick around and mingle at a reception following the evening's final performance. Refreshments will be provided.

CJ parents interested in becoming more involved with the Performing Arts department are encouraged to attend our next PoPS Meeting on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. in the band room. There, you will have an opportunity to meet other parents, learn more about our group and help us prepare for our next big event -- CJ's production of The Seussificaiton of Romeo and Juliet, showing November 18, 19 and 20 in the auditorium.  More details are available here at cjeagles.org >

Sincerely,

CJ 'Joins Hands' with Area Service Organizations
Join Hands Miami Valley, the annual service event in honor of Make a Difference Day, is the weekend of October 21 and 22.  Chaminade Julienne, in conjunction with the United Way, will join with many other organizations all over the Dayton area during this weekend dedicated to service.

Students were presented information and volunteer sign-up sheets during homeroom on Monday. Sign-up sheets may be turned in to the office of ministry and service by the end of this week.

Last year, more than 175 students and staff volunteered their time during this weekend, and we hope to increase that number this year.

CJ Bonfire Cancelled

Due to construction around campus and safety concerns, this year's bonfire has been canceled. We have investigated all possibilities with CJ administrators and the Dayton Fire Department, but no area is suitable or safe for the fire. Thanks to all who were willing to give their time and donations for this event.

CJ will still be selling new "Beat Alter" t-shirts during the week of October 24-29, and we will continue our spirited tradition of decorating the halls before the game against Alter. GO EAGLES!

Michael Lehner

Mike Lehner Mr. Michael Lehner feels extremely fortunate to come to CJ every day and work to expand and enrich the educational experience for CJ students. He was first introduced to the Chaminade Julienne community as an assistant men's basketball coach seven years ago, and immediately fell in love with the school for its rich heritage, caring community, and the way in which its mission is infused throughout the school.

For the past four and a half years, Mr. Lehner has worked in the development office and has gained a unique perspective of both CJ's history, and what is on the horizon. As the assistant director of development, he works to increase awareness and understanding of the CJ Annual Fund and its vital role within the school. His duties also include overseeing the alumni relations program.

Mr. Lehner and his wife, Kate '93 have three children. They welcomed their first daughter Maria into the family this past summer. Michael and Kate are both life-long parishioners at St. Albert the Great Parish, where their oldest son Leo recently began kindergarten.

Having earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton in 2000 and being currently enrolled in the school's MBA program, Michael is a proud Flyers fan. His interests include sports, especially playing golf, as well a spenidng time with friends and family.
