CJ Parent Weekly

Community Update  |  Updates  Calendar  Reminders  Parent Meetings  |  Youth Programs

Greetings!

The English department invites parents and students to explore all the amenities the CJ Community Writing Center has to offer.

Located in room 126, the center is staffed each period of the school day (including homeroom) and open to all students of all ability levels. Anyone needing a safe, quiet space to engage in any step of the writing process is invited to stop by and work one-on-one with a qualified tutor, or use some of the Writing Center's valuable resources.

Beyond the computer stations available, students also have access to various handbooks for help with everything from using MLA style, improving sentence structure, discovering topics, and more. All seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen are encouraged to develop their skills while working to complete college applications, research papers, essays, and other writing assignments.

If you have questions about the Community Writing Center or would like to know more, please don't hesitate to contact me or another member of the English department.

Sincerely,

Molly Bardine, English Department Chair  |  email

2011 Spaghetti Dinner Canceled

After a number of conversations with Co-Educators directly involved with the planning process of the Spaghetti Dinner, and realizing the challenges all would face in hosting the event this year, I have decided to cancel the dinner.

The Co-Educators are thinking of ways to refresh the event with the goal of bringing this community gathering back in some form for next year. If you have questions, please contact me.

Recycle Your Paper At CJ

Did you know you can help CJ earn money just by recycling? Place your newspapers, magazines, shopping catalogs, office and school papers, and mail in our green and yellow Abitibi Paper Retriever located in parking lot A. Most paper can be recycled, but do not include cardboard and phone books.

By recycling paper, not only do you save water and energy, but our school earns money for every pound of paper you help us collect. The money earned then goes to support the continued recycling efforts of the Environmental Club. If you have questions, email club moderators Amy O'Loughlin or Laurie Eloe. Thanks for supporting this student endeavor!

Tim Dillon

Tim DillonMr. Tim Dillon feels blessed by his 28 year involvement with the Chaminade Julienne community. He appreciates that at CJ the awareness of God permeates all of the school's programs and activities.

At one time or another, Mr. Dillon has taught every course offered in the religion department, and now serves as department chair. He is currently piloting an online version of UD Religion 103, a course in which CJ students earn college credit (to UD and other universities) while still in high school. He has also coordinated the retreat program and helped bring the Kairos program to CJ. Additionally, Mr. Dillon spends a bit of time in the University of Dayton library striving to finish his dissertation for a doctoral degree in theology.

Mr. Dillon met his wife, Mary Ellen, while both were moderating the summer LIFE program in 1987. Mary Ellen currently teaches biology at the University of Dayton, so the couple embodies the "marriage of religion and science." Their son, Brendan, graduated from CJ in 2010, and is now a Billiken at St. Louis University. Their daughter, Kateri, is a senior at CJ, and has been involved with CJ's theater program.

Outside of school Mr. Dillon and his family enjoy traveling and bicycling. Be sure to visit his page at cjeagles.org.
