Greetings!
In anticipation of our first week back in the building together, we wish students, parents, faculty and staff a happy beginning to the 2011-12 school year. After the buzz of activity over the summer months, there has never been a better time to stop by CJ for a look at some of our latest developments.
The brand new Eagles Tennis Center, at the corner of Franklin and Ludlow Streets, is nearing completion and we expect to host our first home matches in September. You're invited to view the courts' progress in-person and cheer on the Eagles as we kick-off the fall sports season Thursday, August 18 on Blue Green Field with Meet the Eagles Night at 7:30 p.m. We will once again offer tours of the Student Conditioning Center to families and those new to the CJ community.
We are also excited to announce the implementation of departmental adjustments within the building aimed at enhancing the overall student experience. In mid-July, a planning team of CJ administration, faculty and staff gathered to assess the current manner we deliver student support services. From that meeting, it was decided to combine the functions of City Connects at CJ with the guidance office for the 2011-12 school year. This alignment of the two offices is supported by the latest research from the American School Counselor Association and our partners at Boston College.
Jama Badinghaus, CJ's student support coordinator, will work with Charlene Wheeler, Susan Eichenauer and new guidance counselor, Nicole Will, under the new model of Student Support Services. Counselors have been assigned to families according to students' last name:
- A-G: Mrs. Susan Eichenauer | email | ext. 207
- H-O: Mrs. Nicole Will | email | ext. 215
- P-Z: Mrs. Jama Badinghaus | email | ext. 204
Director Charlene Wheeler will now function as a post-secondary counselor for students entering college and will continue to handle standardizing testing and course scheduling.
We believe we have made great strides in the transformation of our support services and look forward to seeing the new model develop moving forward.
As the start of class quickly approaches, we'd like to take a moment to introduce you to those joining CJ's faculty and staff (listed below). We hope you'll help us welcome each -- and introduce yourself -- at Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 23 at 6 p.m.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at any time with your thoughts, questions or concerns about any of these exciting new things going on at CJ this year.
Thank you and God bless,
John Marshall, Principal | email
