Lady Eagles Soccer Preseason Tourney CJ's women's soccer team fared well in the 2011 Adidas National Soccer Showcase last weekend, outscoring opponents 4 goals to 2 and recording four shutouts during the five-game tournament. We are pleased to announce that Scott Pierce will serve as CJ's interim athletic director. Scott has been a member of the school community as a math teacher and on the football coaching staff for 10 years. He is deeply familiar with our students and the CJ community, and comes to the athletic department with a strong desire to see the Eagles athletic programs grow in opportunities and in success during the 2011-12 school year. Support the Eagles during the 27th annual Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Outing at the Miami Valley Golf Club (directions).
Registration costs $120 and includes green and cart fees; dinner; food and refreshments on the course; and golfer gifts. The schedule for the day is as follows:

Players must be 21 years or older

PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT PICNIC
Both students and families familiar with the Performing Arts department, and those who'd like to learn more about CJ band, choir, and theatre activities are invited to the Performing Arts Picnic on Tuesday, August 16 at Delco Park (directions).
Join us from 6 to 9 p.m. in shelter #1 to mix and mingle with other members of the CJ community over a potluck dinner before the start of school. Guests should please bring a dish according to the first letter of your last name:

Attention Honors English 10 Students
The Honors English 10 discussion board will open this Sunday, July 31, for the discussion on the novel Ceremony. There will be two posted questions. CJ Fall Athletic Season Begins August 1
Next week begins the official start to the fall sports season. Be sure to check these important dates as well as try-out information and mandatory practice information below (NOTE: All fall student-athletes must have an OHSAA physical form on file in the athletic office by Monday, August 1 to participate):
Men's & Women's Cross Country - The last conditioning session is Thursday, July 28 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Triangle Park (directions). Beginning Monday, August 1, the team will hold mandatory practice at Triangle Park starting at 7 p.m. With questions, email men's coach Ken Spitzig or email women's coach Greg Mueller.
Football - Mandatory practice begins Monday, August 1 from 7 to 10 a.m. Please be on time!
Men's Golf - Try-outs will be held on Tuesday, August 2 starting at noon at Miami Valley Golf Club (directions). The team plays its first match at the Oakwood Invitational on Monday, August 8 at the Dayton Country Club (directions).
Women's Golf - The team will meet on Tuesday and Thursday, August 2 and 4 at 9 a.m. at Miami Valley Golf Club (directions). If you have not already been in touch with coach George Menker, please call him at 890.0795 (home) or 271.8166 (cell).
Women's Soccer - Mandatory practice will be everyday beginning Monday, August 1 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Eagle Park on Dog Leg Road (directions). A parent meeting will follow immediately after the first practice on August 1. With questions, email coach Roy Craig.
Women's Tennis - Try-outs will be held at Arthur Fisher Park (directions) on Monday, August 1 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be a team and parent gathering on Sunday, July 31 at the McMahon's (2430 Arbor Glen Court, Dayton 45415).
Women's Track - All girls are invited to learn more about joining the track program at CJ. The Lady Eagles were indoor state champions, district champions, and regional runners-up last season and hope to continue this tradition of success in 2011-12. For more information, email coach Jerry Puckett
Women's Volleyball - Try-outs will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 1-2: Incoming freshman should report from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; girls in grades 10-12 should report from 7 to 9 p.m.

CJ Cuvilly Summer Prep Program
August 1-5 | 8:30 a.m.-noon
This is a great opportunity for students who are served by the CJ Cuvilly program (special education) to familiarize themselves with the building, locate their locker and find their classrooms before the first day of school. Those who participate will earn credit for their first semester religion service requirement.
There will be a meeting for parents on Thursday, August 4 at 7 p.m. in the library. Upperclassmen are invited to help assist their classmates by volunteering during the week. You're Invited to Volunteer With the CJ Community
Chaminade Julienne is participating in Dayton Right to Life's 2nd Annual TK Hausfeld Ride for Life on Saturday, July 30. Volunteers are needed to help staff a rest stop by serving water and light snakcs, and to cheer the riders on any time during the shift from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To become a volunteer, email Karen Emmerich, Religion teacher, or to participate in the Ride for Life as a rider, download this event brochure at daytonlife.org.

Reminder from the Guidance Office
Students will receive schedules, room assignments and locker numbers in early August. Guidance counselors will be available to assist you and and your son or daughter beginning Tuesday, August 16.
During the summer months, if you need a work permit or a copy of your student's transcript, please contact Kelly Muhl, administrative assistant, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 461.3740 x243, or by email. Please allow two business days from the Tuesday or Thursday that we receive your request for it to be processed.
- For work permits: make sure to include a complete address, the employer information and the physician's certificate or a copy of your son or daughter's most recent sports physical.
- For transcripts: make sure to include the reason a transcript is required so that we can determine if it needs to be official or unofficial. (NOTE: CJ alumni should fill out and submit an Alumni Transcript Request Form, available at cjeagles.org. Allow two business days to process and include the fee of $3.)
