CJ Expands Campus with Tennis Courts for the 2011-12 School Year

Greetings!

Chaminade Julienne is proud to announce the addition of a new tennis facility to the school's growing campus! The new courts, which are expected to be ready by the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, represent the latest expansion of on-campus student activity areas, following the opening of Blue Green Field and the Student Conditioning Center in 2010.

The facility, included as one part of the school's master campus plan developed in 2004 and refined in 2010, will be fully funded by a generous gift from a CJ family and will be built at the northwest corner of Ludlow and Franklin Streets. This replaces a parking lot currently used by CJ students and employees at the Marianist Mission, although accommodations will be made on campus to provide for additional student parking by the start of next school year.

The new facility will allow for practice and competition for men's and women's tennis, can be utilized by students in PE courses, will and could be available for CJ community tennis events or alumni activities. Look for more details, including an artist's rendering of the courts, in the upcoming Spring 2011 issue of Vision.

Sincerely,

Dan Meixner, President  |  email

Powder Puff Flag Football Game for Charity

Saturday, May 7  |  1:30 p.m.  |  West Carrollton Jr. High

CJ's senior girls will take on the Alter Knights in our 2nd annual Powder Puff Game for Charity sponsored by the CJ Student Council. Admission to the game at West Carrollton Jr. High School (directions) is $2 for players, coaches, and spectators. Concessions will also be available. All proceeds will be donated to the Dayton Area Habitat for Humanity.

Last year more than $400 was raised for charity as the Eagles defeated the girls from Alter, and this year we hope to make an even larger donation! If you are interested in getting involved, here are just a few ways to help:

  • Donate desserts or drinks to be sold at concessions for the game.
  • Attend the game on Saturday, May 7, pay an admission fee, and cheer the Eagles to victory!
  • Make an outright donation to the cause.
  • Pray for the safety of our students.

Please email Angela Ruffolo with questions or if you'd like to donate. -- View/print flyer

Reminders

Attention Parents of Freshmen

At CJ we expect students to have basic skills in keyboarding, formatting documents in Word, creating an Excel spreadsheet, and designing a PowerPoint presentation. Therefore, it is a requirement that students have experience using these essential tools. Students have two options to complete this requirement:

  1. Take CJ's Computer Topics class during their careers at CJ, or
  2. If students would rather have time in their schedules to take other elective classes, they may demonstrate proficiency in the above mentioned computer skills by passing four computer skills tests. Please note: this test-out option must be completed during a student's freshman year. After freshman year, the only option is to take the Computer Topics class.

Time is running out for freshmen to take the tests -- there are only two testing times remaining. The remaining testing times can be found at here at cjeagles.org

After Thursday, April 28, students will be required to take the Computer Topics class if they have not passed all four tests.

2011-12 Emergency Medical Forms

All students are required to have an annual Emergency Medical Form (EMF) on file in the School Clinic (view/print form). This form is required in the event of a medical emergency so it is imperative we have updated information annually by the first day of the school year. If your child is involved in summer activities, it is required that a form be turned in by June 3, 2011.
