Calamity Day Policy and School Make-up Date Options
|
Greetings!
Last Friday, I made the decision to have school even as other schools decided to close. On days like these, if the school district in which you live is closed or on a delay, you have the option of keeping your child home. In this event, we ask that you contact the Office of Student Services with your decision and let us know the name of the district in which you live. Your son or daughter will be considered excused. We had about 30 missing students due to power outages and weather last Friday, so I thank you for making the effort and hope power is back for all.
I have been asked about the snow days we have used and if we will need to make adjustments to our calendar for make-up days. So far, we have used five calamity days and, because of our school calendar planning, we do not have to make up days at this time, but will if any more calamity days occur. Without using another calamity day, and keeping Tuesday, Feb. 22 as a day off, we are on track to have 175 instructional days, meeting the minimal requirement.
A recent Dayton Daily News story speaks to current legislation that adds two calamity days as well as other options to make up for lost instructional time. As we continue to follow this legislation process, I will also consider using the following dates should I need to call another calamity day or decide to add a day due to loss of instructional time. The following dates that we are currently scheduled to be off could be moved back to a school day: - February 22 - The ministry and service day off
- March 11 - An in-service day
- April 18 - Monday at the beginning of Easter break
- April 25 - Monday after Easter
- June 6 - The first day of summer vacation
Be safe, God bless and Go Eagles!
