Greetings!
We look forward to having the students back in the building tomorrow as we plan to fit all of our Catholic Schools Week celebrations into one day, including a school-wide assembly in honor of our 160/125 Anniversary. Students will be permitted to wear a shirt or sweatshirt from CJ, a Catholic grade school, or a Catholic college Friday, but they must wear uniform shorts or pants. In addition, the Co-Educators will still host their annual faculty and staff appreciation lunch tomorrow--thanks in advance to all parents who are preparing food or planning to volunteer at this event. Community Update
Before the winter weather wiped out the middle portion of this week, CJ students were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and talk with 2001 graduate and current Baltimore Raven Brandon McKinney Monday after school in the library.
Fresh off his appearance in the NFL playoffs, the defensive lineman fielded questions from the audience about his personal and playing experiences while emphasizing the importance of earning a college degree after high school. It was a pleasure welcoming Brandon back to campus. To learn more about his motivational message to students and view event photos, check out this week's latest Community Update story.

Attention Parents of Current Sophomores
The guidance counselors will begin course requests with current sophomores starting Monday, Feb. 7, and work with students through Friday, Feb. 18. Please have your students review the course catalog for their class selections before meeting with their counselors. This will expedite the process. The course catalog can be found on the Academics page of the Web site.

Science Fair Announcements
Students participating in the CJ Science Fair should turn in their boards at the practice session on Tuesday, Feb. 8 after school. The fair will be held at school on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 3:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Out of Uniform Day
Thursday, Feb. 10 Out of uniform passes will be sold for $1 during homeroom. Please adhere to the guidelines listed on pages 42-43 of the Student Handbook.
All the proceeds collected from each of the ten out of uniform days go towards supporting CJ clubs and groups including National Honor Society, Key Club, Ministry and Service, and the senior class.

Reminders
 Parent Volunteers & Donations Needed for Teacher Appreciation Meal
This is your last chance to help with the Co-Educators faculty and staff appreciation meal for tomorrow. We need donations of special desserts and a few door prizes to help make this day memorable.
The teachers have requested if you send in a special dish, to send the recipe too. If you are not a cook but would still like to help, there are plenty of opportunities. We will be setting up and decorating the night before and we need help with serving and cleaning up that day. Parents are Invited to Join the CJ Ski/Snowboard Club
Friday, Feb. 4, is a "Bring a Parent Skiing Night." Parents are invited to join their child at Perfect North Slopes. Please RSVP to Mrs. Marshall by Wednesday, Feb. 2, if you plan to attend and/or ride the bus. Lift tickets cost $43, equipment rental is $23 and there is a $5 bus fee.

Two Scholarship Opportunities from Minsitry & Service
The George Early Service Scholarship is offered to one sophomore each year based solely on service. The recipient of this scholarship will receive one-third off his/her CJ tuition for their junior year, and the award is renewable for senior year. To be eligible, students must have accumulated 70 or more volunteer hours by the end of their first semester sophomore year.
The Sister Ruth Ann Bange Service Award is offered to one junior each year based on his/her commitment to service. To be eligible, students must have accumulated 120 or more volunteer hours by the end of their first semester junior year.

Religion 11 Parent Days with Mr. Mominee
Parents are invited to join their students for Mr. Mominee's Religion 11: Poverty and Equality classes during Parent Days scheduled throughout the semester. February's Parent Days are as follows:

Senior Religion Course Registration Information
Juniors registering for senior religion for the 2011-12 school year should note the following information regarding the University of Datyon/CJ Religion course:
- Students take one course at CJ and receive a semester's credit from CJ in addition to three college credit hours through UD.
- The course work is the same as the UD Religious Studies Introduction to Religious Studies (Catholic Option).
- The cost for the UD credit is approximately 20 percent of the full tuition cost at UD.
- Applications should be submitted as soon as possible.

 Registration Packets
Students were given registration packets on January 13. Please review these packets as they contain important information regarding the registration process for all current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors for the 2011-12 school year. The registration paperwork along with the non-refundable registration fee of $150 is due by March 11.

CJ Community Service Opportunity
As part of the 160/125 Celebration, CJ will partner with Catch the Building Spirit and Habitat for Humanity to rehab a house at 847 St. Nicholas Avenue near St. Anthony's parish. Both individuals and groups are welcomed to get involved during one of the following six Saturdays reserved for the CJ community: February 5 February 12 February 19 February 26 Two shifts are available each day from 8:30 to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m. If you would like to volunteer, please follow these registration instructions and be sure to associate yourself with CJ by checking the corresponding box at Habitat for Humanity's Web site.
