Registration Packets and Fees
due Friday, March 11
|
Greetings! As you and your student begin to complete the registration packets that were passed out last week, please encourage your son or daughter to consider enrolling in a Project Lead the Way course for next year.
Both the Engineering and Biomedical Sciences courses are excellent preparation for college programs, and a great opportunity for students to explore topics and careers before spending college dollars.
Using a unique hands-on-project-based style, students have the chance to interact with local professionals in the science, technology, engineering, math and medicine (STEMM) fields. Additionally, students can earn college credit while still in high school based on their performance on a standardized national exam administered at the end of each course.
For more information about the Project Lead the Way courses that CJ offers, please contact me or one of our Project Lead the Way instructors.
Sincerely,
Meg Draeger, STEMM Coordinator 461.3740 x487 | email |

Catholic Schools Week Update
January 31 - February 4
There are a few changes to the schedule of events during the upcoming Catholic Schools Week, including the rescheduling of Catholic t-shirt day. Please note all of the following:
- The liturgy that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 9, has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 3, and CJ will be on a traditional liturgy schedule that day. As a result, February 9 is now a late start block Wednesday.
- Catholic t-shirt day has been moved from Tuesday, Feb. 1, to Thursday, Feb. 3. Students, faculty and staff may wear a Catholic elementary school shirt, a CJ t-shirt, or a Catholic college t-shirt on this day.
As previously announced, the following activities will still take place throughout the week:
- Each morning there will be trivia questions for students to answer. Winners will be entered into a prize drawing.
- All week there will be a number of outreach events for elementary schools. Key Club has invited schools to participate in a book drive to collect new and gently used books for libraries in both Belize and at the Dayton Children's Medical Center. We will also be sending posters to Catholic elementary schools which will feature CJ students who are alumni of each school.
- On Thursday, Feb. 3, CJ parents along with the Co-Educators will host a special luncheon for faculty and staff (more information below).
- On Friday, Feb. 4, CJ will host a school-wide Anniversary Assembly to celebrate the history of our institution. Special guests, including members of the Sisters of Notre Dame and Society of Mary will be invited, as well as former faculty and staff. After the assembly, everyone will be welcomed to come to a reception in the library. School will be on liturgy schedule this day.

Reminders
BMI Exclusions due Friday, Jan. 21
Recently, Ohio Revised Code 3313.674, known as Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation, was signed into law. One of the first requirements of the law is that all districts and community schools must begin Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings for all students in kindergarten, third grade, fifth grade and ninth grade beginning in the 2010-11 school year. BMI screenings then must take place in these grades every school year.
CJ will be complying with this legislation for 9th grade beginning in January 2011. If you have a freshman student, you will be receiving a letter by mail notifying you of this law. Please be sure to read the letter and if you choose to exclude your student from the testing, please notify the school in writing no later than Friday, Jan. 21. Screenings begin Monday, Jan. 24. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse at 461.3740 x227. Additional information about BMI screenings and FAQs is available at www.letsmove.gov or www.getupmc.org.

Volunteers & Donations Needed for Teacher Appreciation Meal
Traditionally the Co-Educators and CJ parents provide a special meal during Catholic Schools week to show the CJ staff our appreciation for all the work they do with our children. This year's luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3. Please consider helping make this day special by participating in some way. We need donations of special desserts and a few door prizes to help make this day memorable.
The teachers have requested if you send in a special dish to send the recipe too. If you are not a cook but would still like to help, there are plenty of opportunities. We will be setting up and decorating the night before and we need help with serving and cleaning up that day. If you would like to help, or want more information, email Mari Jo Rosenbauer at karosenbauer@att.net or call her at 890-3955.
