Today's CLIC alert is an article by Thomas Woodley, appearing in the Calgary Herald, about Ilan Pappe who gave a series of lectures across Canada.

'Inspired by a Courageous Israeli'

This article is written by the president of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, a secular non-profit organization dedicated to enabling Canadians and their legislators to 'contribute to justice, peace and development in the Middle East'. The aim to achieve their form of 'justice and peace' by boycotting Israeli products from the shelves of all Canadian stores. They will achieve their form of 'justice and peace' when the Israeli government no longer govern over the tract of land currently known as Israel. Unfortunately, Calgarians reading this article probably do not know this, when reading Mr. Woodley's article.

Thomas Woodley opens his remarks with:"Earlier this month, I had the privilege of spending a week in the company of one of the most fascinating and courageous Middle Easterners of the 21st century. I accompanied Israeli scholar Ilan Pappe as he crossed Canada on a lecture tour which included a stop in Calgary."

The author then leads into an attack on Naomi Lakritz, reporter for the Calgary Herald, for not sharing his views on Ilan Pappe. He believes that Ms. Lakritz's lack of respect for Pappe's service to Israel and for his scholarly accomplishments is disturbing.

Today's CLIC adds:

Ilan Pappe was formerly a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa (1984-2007) and chair of the Emil Touma Institute for Palestinian and Israeli Studies in Haifa (2000-2008). He blames the creation of Israel for the lack of peace in the Middle East, arguing that Zionism is more dangerous than Islamic militancy, and has called for an international

boycott of Israeli academics

Before he left Israel in 2008, he had been condemned in the Knesset, Israel's parliament; a minister of education had called for him to be sacked. He is termed as one of Israel's 'New Historians' who, since the release of pertinent British and Israeli government documents in the early 1980s, have been rewriting the history of Israel's creation in 1948, and the corresponding

expulsion or flight of 700,000 Palestinians in the same year. He has written that the expulsions were not decided on an ad hoc basis, as other historians have argued, but constituted the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, in accordance with Plan Dalet, drawn up in 1947 by Israel's future leaders.

Thomas Woodley is president of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), a secular non-profit organization dedicated to 'enabling Canadians and their legislators to contribute to justice, peace and development in the Middle East'.

To understand who this organization represents, we suggest you read the reasons for the organization to lead a 'Boycott Campaign on Israel'. To view it's 'Factsheet' on their reasons to boycott Israeli products, please CLIC here:

TIME crowns Netanyahu as the 'king of Israel'

Time Managing Editor Rick Stengel held an exclusive interview with the Israeli PM after he created a 94-member coalition with the centrist Kadima party; Netanyahu tells TIME the Palestinians 'will never have a better partner than me.'

In the article, Managing Editor Rick Stengel outlines Netanyahu's recent achievements and explains why he is worthy of the title of 'King of Israel.'

"Netanyahu is poised to become the longest-serving Israeli Prime Minister since David Ben-Gurion, the founding father of Israel. He has no national rival," Stengel writes. "His approval rating, roughly 50%, is at an all-time high. At a moment when incumbents around the world are being shunted aside, he is triumphant.

With his bullet-proof majority, he has a chance to turn himself into the historic figure he has always yearned to be. He has become, as some commentators have dubbed him, the King of Israel."

Stengel interviewed Netanyahu at his official residence in Jerusalem, and noted that Netanyahu "would like to be a hero, but he will not be one at the expense of Israel's security.

"He wants to be a defining figure in Israeli history and a significant player on the world stage, but he will not risk what he sees as Israel's safety to be one," Stengel writes. "His ambition and now his security as Prime Minister, though, may let him take that risk. Of the Palestinians, he says, 'If they figure it out, they will never have a better partner than me. I can make it happen and make it stick.'"

Stengel also inquired about Netanyahu's much talked about relationship with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to which the prime minister replied that he has only seen Romney a handful of times over the years and only once this year, when they spoke for 10 minutes, mainly about Iran.
