Today's CLIC alert is an article by Urban Affairs reporter, Daniel Dale, in the Toronto Star, with the annoying story of the intended reappearance of Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in this year's Toronto Pride Parade.

'Queers Against Israeli Apartheid to return to Toronto Pride parade this year'

Mr. Dale explains that, once again, because of this group of narrow-minded fools [Today's CLIC's assessment], City Council will again have to decide whether to cancel funding the parade either partially in full. One member of this group claim that the work they do is basically justice for people and should therefore be celebrated.

The author writes that in March 2011, Mayor Rob Ford told Canadian Jewish News that "taxpayers dollars should not go toward funding hate speech".

However in June, City Council said that these people do not constitute a hate group. So Council will have to take up a whole new series of meetings and decisions regarding funding this year.

Today's CLIC adds:

The terming of this group as 'narrow minded fools' is based on the facts that:

  1. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that allows a Gay Pride Parade.
  2. Israel is the only country in the Middle East where being homosexual is legally tolerable.
  3. The people that this group is 'defending', jail, torture and even execute its population if they are found to be gay.
  4. Perhaps this group of people have been asleep for the last year, but Arab Spring occurred in the meantime with thousands of people dying while fighting for democracy. Would this not be a more noble cause for concern for this group?
