The week will begin with the Time Trial on Tuesday, Aug. 3, in Taylorsville, KY. The time trial, also known as the "Race of Truth" because of the extreme physical demands placed on each competitor, is held on a marked course approximately 16 miles in length. Each competitor will race individually against the clock as seen in the bike leg of triathlons. National championship jerseys will be awarded to the winners of each age group.
Time Trial Course MapThe road racing events, similar to what is seen in professional racing events such as the Tour de France, will be held over three days in Cherokee Park. The roads of the Scenic Loop in the park will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 4, 5 & 6, to allow 18 classes of Masters racers to compete for the National Title in their age groups. Races will range in distance from 30 to 70 miles.
Road Race Course MapThe criterium will be held in Jeffersonville, IN on Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8. Criteriums are bike races held on short courses, often around downtown city blocks. This is the most exciting of the racing for spectators. The length of the course allows continuous, close-up viewing of the bike racing action. Criterium racing has its share of spills and has been called the "NASCAR of bike racing." Distances for the races will range from 18 to 37 miles in length at very high rates of speed.
