TIPS FOR IMPROVING FUEL EFFICIENCY |
 Inflate your Tires. Michelin studies indicate 7psi under-inflation results in a 10% increase in rolling resistance and reduces tread life. If every vehicle in the U.S. had properly inflated tires, we would save 4 million gallons of gasoline every day. Under-inflated tires can reduce fuel economy by 1 mile per gallon.
Maintain your car. Engine maintenance can save up to 165 gallons of gas a year--about $600.
Slow down. Driving 62 mph vs. 75 mph will reduce fuel consumption by about 15%.
Maintain a constant speed. It takes more energy to get a vehicle moving than to keep it moving.
Ditch the cargo. An extra 100 pounds can reduce fuel economy by 2%.
Cut the A/C at low speeds. Using A/C at lower speeds can use up to 20% more fues, so keep the windows down while driving around town. At high speeds, however, having the windows down creates drag, so you'll save more fuel by keeping the A/C on and the windows up. |
